How long have you been employed: Forever

Brief history of employment with UWGB: I was hired as a young assistant professor back in 1984 and have aged into a ripe-old Full Professor

Three words that describe you: A Noo Yawkah at heart; loyal, and a wise-guy (hmm that is more than three words, but what else can you expect from a professor?)

Personal interests: Reading, biking, swimming, cooking (and eating) spending time with my kids

  • Are you messy or organized? I am both.

Best vacation you’ve been to? I went to Israel with my son in 2012 and it was an amazing trip.

Do you have a favorite newspaper, blog? The New York Times

Do you recall any embarrassing moment at work? Showing a candidate for a Human Development position around campus, I slipped, spilled coffee all over her and the floor, and split the zipper on my skirt which almost fell down around me. She told me that before that happened she was really nervous, but she wasn’t afterwards!!

Favorite travel spot? I will go anywhere. I love to travel.

If you could change one thing about working here, what would it be? Reduce workload!

If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be? Arthur Rubenstein

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see? The rugby match that unified South Africa

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? Bagels, lox and cream cheese—what else???

If you were an animal what would you be? A bird.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it? Made in the Bronx

If your house was burning down, what’s the one non-living thing you would save? My father’s chess set.

Least favorite Food? I love all food.

People would be surprised if they knew: I think everyone knows everything about me. I am about as transparent as they come.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us? I would like to stand up comedy

Top 3 life highlights – The birth of my kids, getting the Rosenberg Named Professorship, having my son play the trumpet to the first dance of my daughter’s wedding.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? Interacting with my amazing colleagues and students.

What book did you read last? Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

What celebrity do people think you look like? People said I looked like Carly Simon when we both were younger.

What did you want to be when growing up? A teacher!

What do you always want to try and never did? Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

What do you like to do in your spare time? If I found some spare time I would like to sit in the sun, read the New York Times and drink coffee.

What does a typical day look like for you? All day I am in OMG mode

What is an ability you wish you had? To sing really beautifully

What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? I would pay off my kids’ student loans.   (and then get a new couch because my wonderful kitty is presently destroying the one I have). And I would endow my position in Human Development and Camp Lloyd.

Volunteer Opportunity: Freshman Move-in Day

Want to help first-year students feel welcome as they’re moving in? The Office of Residence Life would like you to join them in helping the new students move in on Sept. 2. The freshman will be moving in between 8:30 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Volunteers will have to be at the Office of Residence Life/Community Center by 8:00 A.M. Student employee hours limit increases to 40 hours on May 20th

The student employee hours limit will increase to 40 hours per week on May 20, 2018.  The hours limit is in place to make sure we are in compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).

  • May 20th to June 23rd: 40 hours per week
  • June 24th to July 7th: 20 hours per week
  • July 8th to August 18th: 40 hours per week
  • August 19th to December 15th: 25 hours per week

Self-Defense Workshop Held April 23rd

Herb Blue’s Total Self Defense LLC presented another great self-defense workshop to employees on Monday, April 23rd.  Instructors Herb, Betsy, and Aaron demonstrated self-defense techniques and shared valuable information about how to protect and empower ourselves.  Thank you to Herb Blue’s Total Self Defense LLC and to the 28 employees who attended the workshops!

 

 

 

UW-Green Bay Ranks # 3 in Million Steps Challenge

The Million Steps Challenge through StayWell lets you work at your own pace to finish one million steps by October 19th.  Meeting this goal will earn you credit for your 2018 well-being activity as part of the $150 wellness incentive.  It’s warm outside – the perfect time to start tracking your steps and working towards a million steps!  Thanks to Amanda for sharing that UW-Green Bay is currently ranked third in this challenge among UW campuses, surpassing campuses much larger than ours!  Great job UW-Green Bay!

Christina Thill started as a Financial Aid Advisor May 7, 2018.  She worked for the UW-Eau Claire Foundation for 9 years.

Christina has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.  She enjoys reading, gardening, biking, and spending time with family, which includes her husband and a 6-month-old son.

Christina is from Marinette, Wisconsin.

Campus Executive Officer (Two Vacancies – Manitowoc and Sheboygan)

The University of Wisconsin – Green Bay (UWGB) seeks applicants for two Campus Executive Officer positions, to be located at the Manitowoc and Sheboygan branch campuses. All qualified applicants are invited to apply. Current employees of the University of Wisconsin Extension and Colleges are especially encouraged to apply and preference will be given to those applicants. These appointments are contingent upon Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approval of the University of Wisconsin System restructure plan, anticipated to be received June 30, 2018.

The Campus Executive Officer (CEO) manages the day-to-day operations of the campus to ensure the campus runs smoothly and efficiently under the direction and guidance of the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance; and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. The primary function of the position is to serve as liaison between the Manitowoc or Sheboygan Branch Campuses and UW Green Bay central campus. The CEO ensures that campus stakeholders and members of the greater community have a single point of contact regarding the campus operations.

In conjunction with the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the CEO is responsible for establishing branch campus direction and development in alignment with the Mission and Vision of the consolidated institution. This position will develop an appropriate implementation plan to meet that vision, and the ability to lead their campus to realize that vision. They must facilitate communication to appropriate institutional leadership, including deans and directors at the central campus. To do so, the position must analyze the needs of students and community stakeholders to maximize utilization of facilities and services to meet the need of the campus and community.

Overall areas of responsibility will include:

  • Academic Affairs
  • Business Administration
  • Community Liaison
  • Enrollment Management
  • Executive Leadership and Visioning
  • Facilities and Safety
  • Student Affairs and Student Service

The respective duties are multifaceted, and as such the CEO is expected to maintain a full understanding of academic affairs, student services, the facilities and grounds of the branch campus, and the business operations of both the branch campus and the central campus. The demands of these positions require exceptional leaders with demonstrated organizational, management, and communication skills.
