Mindfulness Classes

MindFull

Did you know stress rates have skyrocketed in the past six to seven years, a timeline that roughtly corresponds to our ability to “hyperconnect” to work via smartphones?* Being mindful in our daily routine can help us reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and control anxiety. When we practice mindfulness at work, we think more clearly. We respond rather than react. We take events less personally. We make better decisions. In short, our brains slow down. We reduce our stress levels while simultaneously increasing our effectiveness.

“Relaxation” – this was a suggestion from a UWGB employee for what topic the Wellness Committee should focus on next.  Two-time NFL MVP and Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers knows the importance of relaxing and being mindful. Practicing mindfulness can improve many aspects of your daily life, and implementing mindful practices in your routine might be easier than you think!  RELAX

To promote a culture of well-being and help us be more mindful at work, the following meditation and Tai Chi classes will be offered to UWGB employees this spring!  A big THANK YOU to the Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) for their wellness grant to UWGB to fund the entire cost of these classes, so there is no charge to employees to attend!  Another big THANK YOU to the Richard Mauthe Center for co-sponsoring these classes!  All classes will be held at 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. in the Mauthe Center.

We all have stress in our lives.  Regardless of the cause, your body’s reaction to stress can make you more likely to get sick.  So finding ways to de-stress is important to your health.  Mindfulness can be the key to slowing down and enjoying the moment.  Please consider taking advantage of this great opportunity!

From these humble beginnings has grown a nonprofit organization offering programs including:

  • A transitional living program for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Youth programs focusing on prevention of teen pregnancy, domestic violence, sexual assault, and other risk behaviors
  • Training, technical assistance, and facilitation using Technology of Participation (ToP) Facilitation Methods to build consensus and shared awareness among groups of people in local, state and national settings
  • Healing from intergenerational trauma through a community-facilitated White Bison: Mending Broken Hearts initiative

WWGP’s mission is to promote peace, respect, and belonging through skill-building, sharing of resources and caring support for our community. The organization has maintained 501(c)3 status since 1998, and is funded primarily through federal and some local grants. Leadership Green Bay Informational Brown Bag Session

2015-2016 Leadership Green Bay Program Information

Each year, the University sponsors up to two employees to participate in the Leadership Green Bay program.  This program was established in 1983 by the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and offers select individuals the unique opportunity to develop leadership skills while enhancing the well-being of the Green Bay area. Program goals include enhancing the participant’s knowledge of the Green Bay community; obtaining a greater awareness of issues that face the Green Bay area; enhancing leadership skills; and making an impact on the Green Bay Community.

Participants meet one day per month, October through May, following a two-day overnight retreat in September. Programs focus on Green Bay’s local economy, education, local history and heritage, diversity and cultural awareness, human services, government, and environment. In addition, small groups work on projects designed to enhance awareness of community problems, identify systems and methods to effect change, and develop their project management, team, and presentation skills. The groups meet on their own time outside Leadership Green Bay sessions.

To learn more about Leadership Green Bay, please consider attending the following session, which will feature an informational presentation by Tom Lyga, Director of Education and Leadership for the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce, as well as a panel of UW-Green Bay employees who have graduated from the Leadership Green Bay program:
