Tips and Tricks for Healthy Eating this Holiday Season

  1. Eat a snack before dinner. Enjoy some fruits and vegetables before getting to your meal to avoid overeating.
  2. Exercise early and keep moving! Working out early ensures that you will get some time for yourself and work off some calories before loading up!
  3. Manage beverage consumption- holiday beverages are laden with calories- be conscious of the non-food calories you are consuming.

Dr. Akishi Oshita from of Cornerstone Chiropractic will be giving a nutrition and lifestyle presentation on the Okinawan Diet.  This people of Okinawa Japan have some of the longest life expectancy in the world.  In addition, Okinawans have very low rates of cancer in comparison to Americans. Wellness Committee Fruit & Vegetable Challenge

The Wellness Committee is sponsoring a month long nutrition challenge encouraging employees to track their fruit and vegetable consumption and increase their daily servings.

Throughout the month of November, employees are encouraged to keep track of their daily servings of fruit and vegetables on the tracking forms provided.  At the end of each week, participants will turn in their tracking form to wellness@uwgb.edu and weekly drawings will be held for prizes.  At the end of the month, a grand prize drawing will be held, with the winner receiving two Green Bay Gamblers Tickets.

Festival Foods 6th Annual Turkey Trot

Register Now for this fun event! Register before October 31st for just $18, which includes a bib, timing chip (for 5 milers), post-race refreshments, long sleeved t-shirt AND a pumpkin pie! Visit http://www.festivalfoodsturkeytrot.com for race information and other locations.The Turkey Trot offers two events – a five mile run and a two mile walk – to accommodate participants of all ages and abilities. Attendees enjoy the upbeat music, high quality long-sleeved t-shirts and free Festival Foods pumpkin pies at the finish line that they can take home and enjoy with their family. New this year- the Dog Jog, a separate group just for dogs and their humans. The Dog Jog will start at the back of the 2 mile event.

The Turkey Trot benefits the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA in communities Festival serves. Both of those organizations provide volunteers in return for monetary proceeds.
