This position reports to the Director of TRIO and Precollege and serves as the primary contact for RCMS students, parents, and the community. The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring the success of each RCMS student through academic and personal counseling. The Assistant Director should be familiar with the challenges and barriers that low income, first generation students and their families face in preparing for college and be ready to help RCMS students overcome the obstacles in their path to postsecondary education.
The RCMS Assistant Director/Advisor plans and implements college preparation curriculum, assists students through every part of the college preparation process (i.e. ACT prep., FAFSA, Admissions, Scholarships, Grants and Loans), and plans all summer field trips. Recruitment of new students through on-site presentations and utilizing the network of precollege programs in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota is a primary focus for this position each spring. The Assistant Director also has primary responsibility for the residence hall environment during the six-week summer session, including—in conjunction with the TRIO & Precollege Programs Director–interviewing, hiring, and supervising Resident Assistants (RAs) (including the Head RA).
