Would you like to enjoy fresh-picked locally grown veggies and herbs each week? Please come to this Lunch ‘n Learn to find out more about CSAs!  Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between a farm and a local community of supporters that provides a direct link between the production and consumption of food. CSA members cover the farm’s operating cost by purchasing a share of the harvest. This provides members with a healthy supply of locally grown, seasonally fresh produce throughout the growing season.

Sleepy Hollow Farm & CSA is a small, farmer owned farm in Kewaunee County. They specialize in growing a variety of veggies using sustainable farming practices, and no chemicals, herbicides or pesticides touch your food. (For more information about Sleepy Hollow Farm & CSA, you can visit their website at: http://www.sleepyhollowfarmcsa.com/)

Presenter Suzi Sevcik has a lifetime of farm experience. From growing up on her parent’s dairy farm to now working the fields with her own farm. Using techniques that are kind to the earth to grow veggies, she takes the approach of never ending improvement. Trialing different varieties to see what grows well in their micro-climate, to constantly find better ways to grow veggies and manage weeds and pests. The mission always remains the same – To produce nourishing food that respects that land, and feeds our community and to exemplify a sustainable model for small-farm viability.

When: Tuesday, February 9, 2016

July Lunch ‘n Learn- Breaking up with Sugar

Celeste Faye

If you have ever struggled with sugar cravings, then this Lunch n’ Learn is for you!

In a world filled with mixed messages about food and health, it is becoming increasingly harder to get control over our bodies, our weight, and our stress. And in this short session, Celeste Faye (daughter of UWGB’s own Linda Parins!) is here to help you discover the 6 motivators responsible for sugar cravings. Turns out it’s not your fault!

Which 1 of the 6 motivators is ruling your life? The Rebel, The Over-Indulger, or perhaps the ‘Procrastinator’? Your sugar cravings are telling you more than “I want chocolate”, but you likely haven’t figured out how to decode the message.

Join us for this July Lunch n’ Learn & discover how to go beyond diets, detoxes and exercise regimes to understand how you can get control over your sugar cravings.

And if the thought of quitting sugar makes you want to run in the other direction because you don’t really want to give up your sweet treats right now— you should still join us – because the good news is you don’t have to! In this session, you’ll get powerful insights to a deeper meaning of your cravings. And in the spirit of not having to give it all up, Celeste will be bringing a delicious sugar-reduced dessert for you to enjoy. 🙂

When:   Thursday, July 9, 2015; 12:15 – 1 p.m.

Where:  1965 Room; University Union

Please RSVP by Monday, July 6, 2015.

Celeste is the host of an online program titled “Breaking Up With Sugar” and the co-founder of SculptMyHealth.com.

June Lunch ‘n Learn

StrawBaleSmall1

The UW-Green Bay Wellness Committee Presents:

What: Wellness Lunch ‘n Learn “Straw Bale Gardens” with Professor Heidi Fencl

When: Monday, June 1, 2015
12:
15 to 1:00 p.m.

Where: Cofrin Library, 7th floor, Room 735

Please RSVP at http://uwgreenbay.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0IEDrJMclVfn9IN by Thursday, May 28, 2015.

Straw bale gardens are a great way to grow fresh produce for people with soil, space, or time limitations.  They take some set up in the spring, but then largely care for themselves over the rest of the summer.  A single bale can support two tomato plants or 30 bean plants, or 3 potato plants, so even one or two bales can provide a nice garden.  Come to this session if you would like to learn more about setting up and maintaining a straw bale garden of your own.

Heidi Fencl is a Professor in the Physics department at UW-Green Bay.  She has a 24 bale garden this year and is looking forward to fresh green beans, cucumbers and tomatoes!
