Welcome Rick Karius

Rick Karius is in his second season with the Green Bay men’s basketball staff and his first as the Director of Basketball Operations. Karius joined the staff in 2013-14 as the video coordinator and helped the Phoenix win the Horizon League regular season championship.

A 2009 graduate of UW-La Crosse, Karius spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater (2011-13). He also spent the 2010-11 season as an assistant coach at UW-Superior and the 2009-10 season at Southwest Minnesota State.

A native of Chilton, Wis., Karius was a four-year letterwinner at UW-La Crosse and served as a team captain. He was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and All-Sportsmanship Team.

Welcome Beth Spoehr

SpoehrBethaBeth Spoehr took over the reins of the Phoenix softball program in July 2014, becoming the fifth head coach in program history.

A native of Appleton and a standout player at Appleton East, Spoehr went on to play collegiately at the University of Maine where she earned All-Rookie America East honors and All-Academic America East accolades three times. Over four seasons, Spoehr posted a 3.77 ERA in 95 appearances with 54 starts, striking out 208 over 360.1 innings of work.

After exhausting four years of eligibility, Spoehr spent a summer in Enköping, Sweden where she served as a pitcher and coach for the Enköping Softball Club. She also had the opportunity to travel as a volunteer assistant coach for the Sweden National Team at the European Softball Championships in Prague.

Following the summer season, Spoehr returned to Maine where she served as an assistant for the softball program while completing her degree in Kinesiology and physical and health education.

Spoehr is no stranger to the Green Bay softball program, as she has assisted at the team’s annual winter pitching clinics. She also has ties to the local softball community, working as a pitching coach for area athletes in addition to working with the Menasha Blue Jays and Appleton Rockers softball organizations.

Welcome Joey Daniels

DanielsJoeyJoey started on August 1, 2014, as the Assistant Director of Communications. Most recently, Daniels worked for two years as the Sports Information Coordinator at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he worked with the Chargers’ Division I men’s hockey program. A 2011 graduate of UW-Stevens Point, Daniels has also worked previously at North Georgia College & State University and the Atlanta Silverbacks.

 

In his role at Green Bay, will be the primary media contact for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball and softball. He is the department’s lead graphic designer and assists with social media strategy and execution. Daniels provides assistance for video services, website maintenance and supervision of student and gameday staff.   Daniels, a native of Wild Rose, Wisconsin.  Welcome Joey!

Welcome Christine Cox

Christine started on August 11, 2014, as University Services Program Associate in Career Services.  She previously worked as an office manager for Bobcat Plus in De Pere for 18 years.  Originally from McHenry, Illinois, she has a bachelor’s degree in Education from Northern Illinois University.  Welcome Christine!

 

Welcome Brendan Gildea

Brendan started on August 4, 2014, as the Assistant Athletics Director for Internal Affairs.  Brendan comes to Green Bay after two years with the University of California Golden Bears athletics program in Berkeley as a financial reporting analyst.  He holds a bachelor’s in Sports Management from Valparaiso University and a bachelor’s in Accounting from Colorado Technical University.  He is originally from Arlington Heights, Illinois.  Welcome Brendan!

 

Welcome Briana Hagany

HaganyBrianaBriana started on August 12, 2014, as the ESL Program Coordinator.  She has more than a decade of experience in English as a second language, including teaching and developing curriculum from K-12 through adult education.  A native of the Fox Valley, she completed her bachelor’s at Bethel University in Minnesota and a master’s in linguistics and cognitive science at the University of Delaware.  More recently, she was and adjunct ESL instructor for Fox Valley technical College.  Welcome Briana!

Welcome Craig Sandlin

SandlinCraigCraig Sandlin was named the Assistant Athletics Director for External Relations at UW-Green Bay on July 16, 2014. Sandlin came to Green Bay after a tenure as the Assistant AD/Marketing and Promotions at Bowling Green State University.

In Sandlin’s role at Bowling Green, he created marketing plans and PA scripts and serves as the game day producer for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and hockey. Sandlin also has overseen significant increases in student attendance at football, volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball games. He implemented and ran weekly external relations meetings with marketing, ticketing, sports information and Learfield Sports Properties.

In his new position at Green Bay, Sandlin’s duties will include responsibilities from the following areas: athletics marketing, ticketing, marketing and multimedia rights, athletics communications, concessions and merchandising and licensing. Sandlin will provide direction for the department as a member of the athletics executive staff and act as the sport supervisor for the men’s and women’s tennis programs.

Sandlin has previously worked as an assistant director of marketing at both James Madison University and Ohio University as well as an inside sales representative with the Miami Heat. He graduated from Ohio with a bachelor’s degree in sport management.

Welcome Michael Bubolz

BubolzMichaelMichael started on August 4, 2014, as an Applications Developer, Computing and Information Technology.  Prior to starting at UW-Green, Michael was employed at Marquette University as an IT Application Specialist and at UW-Milwaukee as an enrollment services staff member.  He earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in criminal justice from UW-Milwaukee.  He is a native of Van Dyne, Wisconsin.  Welcome Michael!

Welcome Paul Mueller

MuellerPaulPaul started on August 25, 2014, as an Assistant Professor, Human Biology.  Paul joins UW-Green Bay from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he was an assistant professor of cell and development biology.  His research has focused on the regulatory pathways that govern cell proliferation, particularly in relations to embryogenesis and development. Originally from Milwaukee, he earned a bachelor’s from UW-Milwaukee and his PhD in biology for the California Institute of Technology.  Welcome Paul!

Welcome Bobbie Webster

websterbobbie1Bobbie Webster started on July 28, 2014, as a Natural Areas Ecologist for the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity.  Prior to starting at UW-Green Bay she was employed at Door Country Land Trust, Applied Ecological Services and the Wisconsin DNR.  Shear earned her master’s and bachelor’s from UW-Steven’s Point.  She is originally from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, is married to Matt and has a daughter, Hannah.  Welcome Bobbie!
