Have a topic you would like to suggest for a lunch and learn or future wellness event?  Like the topics we’ve covered so far, but would like to suggest a different meeting time?  Are you finding the monthly Wellness Newsletters informational, or would you like to see changes to it?

Take the 2014 Wellness Committee Programming Survey to provide us with your thoughts and feedback.  As the Wellness Committee is excited to start planning programming for the upcoming year, we request this survey to be completed by Friday, January 31, 2014.

Winter All-Employee Professional Development Day

You are invited to attend the 2014 Winter All-Employee Professional Development Day on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.  You are welcome to attend one, some, or all of the workshops.
Because of limited space in each session, please be sure to RSVP to Human Resources at hr@uwgb.edu by Friday, January 17 and indicate which session(s) you will be attending. These sessions will take place in either MAC 237 or IS 1129, Lab E.  There is no cost to your department for you to attend.

In a world that emphasizes talking and talking and talking, we are missing the voices and power of introverts, ½ of the population. Taking a page from Susan Cain’s book “Quiet”, we explore the many contributions introverts can make on your staff and the ways in which offices can structure themselves to elicit those contributions. This workshop is applicable to everyone, at all levels of the University community.

Gen Y: Ways to Motivate, Retain, and Focus the Gen Y Student and Worker

The Gen Y population includes individuals born approximately between 1980 and 1998. At the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, Gen Y includes our current students and our younger workforce. In this interactive session we will examine common traits and values of this generation. Ways to motivate, retain, and focus the Gen Y student and worker in an inclusive environment will be discussed.

Tips and Tricks for Healthy Eating this Holiday Season

  1. Eat a snack before dinner. Enjoy some fruits and vegetables before getting to your meal to avoid overeating.
  2. Exercise early and keep moving! Working out early ensures that you will get some time for yourself and work off some calories before loading up!
  3. Manage beverage consumption- holiday beverages are laden with calories- be conscious of the non-food calories you are consuming.

Dr. Akishi Oshita from of Cornerstone Chiropractic will be giving a nutrition and lifestyle presentation on the Okinawan Diet.  This people of Okinawa Japan have some of the longest life expectancy in the world.  In addition, Okinawans have very low rates of cancer in comparison to Americans. Other notes:

  • This event is FREE to students, faculty/staff and Kress members
  • Participants are encouraged to bring a sweatshirt, blanket and/or pillow for the Nidra portion
  • This event is for ALL levels – experienced or new to yoga, you are sure to find your place on the mat

Get your sweat on from temple to toe.  Led by certified Yoga instructor, Liz.  This 90 minute practice starts with a flowing Power Yoga practice, and will be closed with a deep meditation (Nidra) where you will be invited to surrender to the ultimate state of letting go.

Mid semester can be stressful, why not work it out on the mat with a good sweat followed by a chance to take time for yourself and simply just breathe.

We hope you’ll join us for this magical event!

Wellness Committee Fruit & Vegetable Challenge

The Wellness Committee is sponsoring a month long nutrition challenge encouraging employees to track their fruit and vegetable consumption and increase their daily servings.

Throughout the month of November, employees are encouraged to keep track of their daily servings of fruit and vegetables on the tracking forms provided.  At the end of each week, participants will turn in their tracking form to wellness@uwgb.edu and weekly drawings will be held for prizes.  At the end of the month, a grand prize drawing will be held, with the winner receiving two Green Bay Gamblers Tickets.

Festival Foods 6th Annual Turkey Trot

Register Now for this fun event! Register before October 31st for just $18, which includes a bib, timing chip (for 5 milers), post-race refreshments, long sleeved t-shirt AND a pumpkin pie! Attendees enjoy the upbeat music, high quality long-sleeved t-shirts and free Festival Foods pumpkin pies at the finish line that they can take home and enjoy with their family. New this year- the Dog Jog, a separate group just for dogs and their humans. The Dog Jog will start at the back of the 2 mile event.

The Turkey Trot benefits the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA in communities Festival serves. Both of those organizations provide volunteers in return for monetary proceeds. Updates and improvements have been made to the recruitment and hiring policy, procedure, and forms for all employee types.   Human Resources will be offering informational sessions to introduce the enhanced process, review the updated forms, and answer questions that may arise.   These workshops are most applicable to those University employees who are involved in the recruitment and hiring process.Updated documents will be available on the Human Resources website on Wednesday, August 14, 2013.  Once they are published, please be sure to visit Human Resources Recruitment and Hiring website to access the new forms to be used for all recruitments going forward.
