Dr. Akishi Oshita from of Cornerstone Chiropractic will be giving a nutrition and lifestyle presentation on the Okinawan Diet.  This people of Okinawa Japan have some of the longest life expectancy in the world.  In addition, Okinawans have very low rates of cancer in comparison to Americans. REGISTER TODAY to join UW-Green Bay’s team for the 2013 Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis. This is a fun, festive, family friendly event! Put on your reindeer antlers and your running shoes and join us for some holiday cheer. Adult Registration- $25, Youth Registration (12 and under) $15. Register by Monday, November 18th to get the UW-Green Bay team name included on your t-shirt. The wellness committee will be giving away a prize to the first 10 registrants who register before Friday, November 22nd!

  • This event is FREE to students, faculty/staff and Kress members
  • Participants are encouraged to bring a sweatshirt, blanket and/or pillow for the Nidra portion
  • This event is for ALL levels – experienced or new to yoga, you are sure to find your place on the mat

Get your sweat on from temple to toe.  Led by certified Yoga instructor, Liz.  This 90 minute practice starts with a flowing Power Yoga practice, and will be closed with a deep meditation (Nidra) where you will be invited to surrender to the ultimate state of letting go.

Mid semester can be stressful, why not work it out on the mat with a good sweat followed by a chance to take time for yourself and simply just breathe.

We hope you’ll join us for this magical event!

Wellness Committee Fruit & Vegetable Challenge

The Wellness Committee is sponsoring a month long nutrition challenge encouraging employees to track their fruit and vegetable consumption and increase their daily servings.

Throughout the month of November, employees are encouraged to keep track of their daily servings of fruit and vegetables on the tracking forms provided.  At the end of each week, participants will turn in their tracking form to wellness@uwgb.edu and weekly drawings will be held for prizes.  At the end of the month, a grand prize drawing will be held, with the winner receiving two Green Bay Gamblers Tickets.

Festival Foods 6th Annual Turkey Trot

Register Now for this fun event! Register before October 31st for just $18, which includes a bib, timing chip (for 5 milers), post-race refreshments, long sleeved t-shirt AND a pumpkin pie! Attendees enjoy the upbeat music, high quality long-sleeved t-shirts and free Festival Foods pumpkin pies at the finish line that they can take home and enjoy with their family. New this year- the Dog Jog, a separate group just for dogs and their humans. The Dog Jog will start at the back of the 2 mile event.

The Turkey Trot benefits the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA in communities Festival serves. Both of those organizations provide volunteers in return for monetary proceeds. Learn 2 Curl at the Green Bay Curling Club

What: Want to try the sport of Curling? Sign up for a “Learn 2 Curl” lesson! In just one short lesson you will be ready for league play and bonspieling (tournaments)

It takes about an hour to go through the teaching sequence with an “end” (similar to a baseball inning) or two to practice a game situation.The ice house is about 40 degrees. Please plan accordingly and bring light weight gloves and hats. Wear warm, loose fitting clothing as you will need to stretch while delivering the stone.The Learn 2 Curl program is sponsored by the Green Bay Curling Club and is open to the public, therefore spouses, children and friends are encouraged to attend! Come join licensed Kress Fitness Center Zumba instructor, Kristy Aoki, and other members of the wellness committee in an introductory session of Zumba.  During this time you will learn the basic steps that are often used in many dance based fitness classes (Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue). Each style will be broken down followed by an opportunity to try the step in a song.  This will be a low-impact workout. Wellness Opportunity at Shorewood Golf Course: Golf & Lunch for $10.00

Plays three holes – or more if time permits – between 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and have lunch too!

Come and play holes 1, 2, & 3 ending up back at the clubhouse where you can dine in or take out lunch from the extensive clubhouse menu! This wellness opportunity includes the use of rental clubs at no charge, allowing you to get out, exercise and enjoy the beautiful views that Shorewood golf course has to offer.

Shorewood is a seasonal operation that will remain open through October (possibly into early November), closing for the winter and re-opening in late-March/early-April.

Pink Pumpkin 5K Walk/Fun Run

Whether strolling or racing, we’re all moved by the same mission: Prevention. American women have a 1 in 3 chance of getting cancer in their lifetime, with men having a 1 in 2 chance. The Breast Cancer Family Foundation is committed to reducing this risk by educating 7,000+ students and adults in our community each year on awareness and prevention for all types of cancer.
