Mark Skogen is the third generation of Skogen grocers. Mark’s grandfather, Paul Skogen, opened his first grocery store in Onalaska, Wis., in 1946. Dave Skogen, Mark’s father, grew the small chain of IGA stores in the ‘70s and ‘80s and then introduced the family business to the large-grocery format of Festival Foods in 1990. Mark joined the company full-time after graduating from Viterbo University in 1992 and became president and CEO in 2000.Under Mark’s leadership, Skogen’s Festival Foods operates 19 stores across the state in the communities of Green Bay, Bellevue, De Pere, Suamico, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kenosha, Fort Atkinson, Appleton (2), Neenah, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Marshfield, Eau Claire, La Crosse (2), Holmen and Onalaska. The company has announced plans for stores in the Mount Pleasant and Madison markets as well.Mark attributes their continued success to the 5,000 associates whom are all committed to the company’s Boomerang Theory which guides everyday business decisions by answering the question, “Will it bring the customer back?”In addition to leading Festival Foods, Mark serves on several boards of directors, including Green Bay Packers, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Foundation, Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay.  He resides in De Pere and has two beautiful daughters, Sydney and Kennedy.

 

Annual Open Enrollment Process & 2015 Contributions/Premiums

This year’s Annual Open Enrollment period is October 6 – 31, 2014 for participating plans.  Information pertaining to 2015 benefit changes and enrollment opportunities is available on your My UW System Portal by clicking on the Read more>> link under the Annual Benefit Enrollment Period section.

 

2015 Health Plan Changes:

Each health plan will now offer a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) option in addition to their current regular plan.  An HDHP provides coverage much like the regular plans except you must meet the annual deductible before services are covered.  Click here for an overview of the High Deductible Health Plan.  The annual deductible for the HDHP plans for 2015 will be $1,500 for single coverage and $3,000 for family coverage.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA):

TASC will be the new  Employee Reimbursement Account (ERA) vendor in 2015 and will offer three Flexible Spending Accounts in 2015:

  • Health Care FSA
  • Dependent Day Care FSA
  • Limited Purpose FSA*

*The Limited Purpose FSA is designed for those who are enrolled in the HDHP and HSA and are looking for an additional medical care FSA.  It allows you to pay for qualified vision, dental, and post-deductible medical expenses.

 

New FSA Changes for 2015:

  • The plan year will be January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.  There will be no grace period from January 1, 2016 to March 15, 2016.  Expenses must be incurred between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015.
  • If you have any monies left in your FSA on December 31, 2015, you will be able to carry over a maximum of $500 to the 2016 plan year.  Anything over $500 will be lost.
  • You will have until April 15, 2016 to file your 2015 claims.

 

Supplemental Dental/Vision Plans:

Epic Benefits+, Dental Wisconsin, and VSP Vision Insurance will all be offering open enrollment opportunities.  Please view details on each of the plans under the Annual Benefit Enrollment Period section on your portal.

Campus Connection Program

Are you interested in being a mentor for new employees?  Would you like to meet new people and share your wisdom and experiences as a UW-Green Bay employee?  If so, please consider becoming a “Campus Resource Person” within the Campus Connection Program!

Human Resources, in partnership with the University Staff Committee (formerly CSAC) and the Academic Staff Governance Committee is introducing an updated new employee mentor program to include both University Staff (Classified) and Academic Staff employees. This program will be called the Campus Connection Program.

The goal of the Campus Connection Program is to foster a cooperative network among University Staff and Academic Staff employees, as well as to cultivate a sense of community on campus.  The program benefits new employees by giving them a friendly resource (a campus resource person).  In return, existing employees have the opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge.

As a campus resource person, you would help new employees acclimate to the campus culture and help them become an active campus community member.  You would meet with the new employee, invite them to university events, and act as a resource.

If you are interested in being a campus resource person:

  1. Have a discussion with your supervisor to discuss the feasibility with your workload.
  2. By October 31, 2014, send an e-mail to HR at hr@uwgb.edu with your supervisor copied expressing interest.
  3. HR will be in contact with all interested mentors to arrange a training session and tour.

Annual Open Enrollment Period Begins on October 6

Mark your calendars! The Annual Benefit Open Enrollment period is October 6 – 31, 2014 for participating plans.

Annual Open Enrollment information will be available on the My UW System Portal, under the Annual Benefit Enrollment Period section.  A summary will be provided directly on the portal, however detailed benefit information about the open enrollment period will be provided by clicking on the Read More>> link at the bottom of the section as it becomes available.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2014
University Accounting & Budget Overview

Extramural Grant Procedures:  Pre-through Post-Award

The Office of Grants and Research (OGR) ensures accountability, compliance and stewardship for sponsored programs as directed by the values of the office and by all applicable Federal, State, UW System and University policies, procedures and regulations.  While the OGR handles all pre-award and non-financial post-award activities, the Controller’s Office is responsible for post-award monitoring and reporting of extramurally funded gifts, grants, and contracts.  The two offices work closely together to ensure that appropriate and accurate fiscal information is provided on agency requests.   Join us for a brief overview of extramural pre and post-award grant procedures, where your questions and input are welcome.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2014
Waiver and Off-Campus Activity Guidelines
Time:  9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

On any college campus it is beneficial to have social or academic activities in which students will participate which pose greater danger than a traditional classroom or lecture setting.  Whenever these activities are controlled by or organized by University Staff or Faculty a duty of care is created which may result in liability on the University.  In order to best protect the University and employees certain protocols should be followed to determine whether the activity should be done; what can be done to avoid danger; and what disclosures or waivers should be obtained to show the student understands all the risks.  This session will address the when and why of waivers and address some of the protocols in place on campus.
Fleet Vehicle Authorization, Use, & Procedures
Time:  10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

This session will provide information on how to become an authorized driver at UW-Green Bay by giving you general information, the State’s minimum driving standards, how to obtain driver authorization, information regarding fleet vehicles, and how to request a fleet vehicle for use of University business. A demonstration of the new Online Motor Pool Registration System will also be provided.
AED Training
Time:  1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

This presentation will help to familiarize employees on how and when to use an AED.  At the end of the training employees will have an opportunity to use a test AED to practice what they have learned.

WISDM

The WISDM (Wisconsin Data Mart for Peoplesoft Financials) is a reporting tool used to view the fiscal activity for departments and project/grants on campus. The information contained in WISDM is extracted from the Peoplesoft Shared Financial System (SFS) on a nightly basis, and includes current year as well as prior year activity. Activity for deposits, purchase orders, journal uploads (chargebacks), expense reports and payroll information can all be obtained from WISDM. Lisa Jackovich will present an online demonstration of WISDM, and answer your questions.
Campus Connection Program

Human Resources, in partnership with the Classified Staff Advisory Committee and the Academic Staff Governance Committee, will be rolling out an updated new employee mentor program to include both Classified and Academic Staff/Limited Employees.  All Classified and Academic Staff/Limited employees are encouraged to attend this informational session to learn more about what it means to be a campus mentor and take part in the Campus Connection Program.  This session will include an interactive panel discussion with current mentors, an overview and history of the program, and information about where we are headed in the future.
Student Supervisor Training

Benefit Changes and Updates for 2015

Disruptive Situations

Dealing with disruptive people can be stressful.  Unpredictable actions and erratic behaviors can sometimes come as a surprise to anyone of us. This training will help you develop an action plan. Learn how to identify someone in need of assistance or intervention and who to call for help.  You will learn both what to do, and also what not to do for a variety of behaviors you may encounter at work, walking around campus and in your everyday life.

Supervisory Leadership Certificate Graduates

Congratulations to the first three graduates of the Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program for UW-Green Bay supervisors!  Sue Bodilly, Jeff Krueger, and Jeff Sonkowsky have all completed the requirements needed to gain their certificate.  The Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program for UW-Green Bay supervisors is a collaboration between the Small Business Development Center and Human Resources.  Selected participants complete core and elective courses which build leadership skills, invest in their employees, advance their departments, and move their careers forward. Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is pleased to announce a certification opportunity for UW-Green Bay supervisors. The Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program for UW-Green Bay supervisors is a collaboration between the Small Business Development Center and Human Resources. The program is designed to help supervisors build leadership skills, invest in their employees, and advance their department. Each semester, five supervisors will be selected to begin this program. Approximately $300 in expenses for course materials and other items will be charged to the department. Supervisors are encouraged to discuss the cost with Division Heads/Area Leaders if funding is a barrier to participation.

If you are interested in participating in this program, please complete and submit the Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program Interest Form to your supervisor. Supervisors should review and complete their portion of the form, and forward to the Area Leader no later than August 15th. Forms will be forwarded to the Position Review Committee for consideration and decisions made on attendees will be communicated to employees and supervisors by early September.

If you applied for the program last year and were wait-listed, there is no need to resubmit an interest form. Your form will be considered by the Position Review Committee for this year’s program. If you are no longer interested in participating in the program, please notify HR by e-mailing hr@uwgb.edu.

What: How could the Employee Assistance Program help me or a co-worker?

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential, work place based Employee Assistance Program.  The program is designed to assist in the prevention, early identification and resolution of personal issues with may affect both an employee’s sense of well-being and their ability to effectively carry out their work responsibilities.  Examples of issues which the EAP might be helpful with are health, marital, family, financial, alcohol and other drug, emotional, stress and other personal concerns.Join Greg Smith, Senior Counselor for this lunch and learn that will focus on how the EAP program could help you or a co-worker.  The goals will be to help you learn what services are provided, how to access services and what other resources are available in the community.  You will also have a chance to provide ideas on how EAP services could be enhanced on our campus.

Your work can affect your health.  Since we spend a fair amount of time in our workplace, it’s essential that we do what we can to create a healthy work environment.  Ergonomics is the study of fitting workplace conditions and job demands to the worker rather than forcing the worker to adapt to the job.  Join Jill Fermanich, University Safety Manager, for this lunch and learn that will focus on computer workstation ergonomics.  The goals will be to help you learn what you can do to set up your office work space and practices so that they fit you and help you to be more comfortable and healthy at work.  The session will discuss workstation setup, how you sit, and how long you stay in one position.
