The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division releases final Overtime rule

Effective May 18, 2016 the US Department of Labor finalized a rule to update overtime protections for US Workers.  The final rule, which takes effect December 1, 2016 raises the minimum salary threshold from $23,660 to $47,476 per year.  However this does not impact teachers, as anyone who’s primary duty is teaching is exempted from the salary threshold.  Included in this change are automatic updates every three years to maintain at the 40th percentile of salaried workers.  Human Resources is continuing to work with departments and divisions to analyze the current employee population and determine how these changes will be implemented.  For more information on this change, please see the resources available on the Department of Labor website or Employee Resources and FAQ’s available on the UW System OHRWD website.
