On August 23, 2021, the Social Work Department welcomed Cary B. Waubanascum as an Assistant Professor in Social Work.
Cary is originally from Green Bay. Cary was previously employed with the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities as a research assistant in the School of Social Work. She has also worked with the National Criminal Justice Training Center at Fox Valley Technical College, the College of Menominee Nation and the Oneida Housing Authority. She has been involved in the Roseville Area School District in Roseville, Minnesota and is an American Indian Parent Committee member. Cary has also volunteered with “The First Gift” program in Minneapolis teaching groups how to make moccasins for babies in the NICU and volunteered with the Lower Phalen Creek Project sewing medicine bags for traditional medicines to give to front line workers.
Cary enjoys canoeing, reading, writing, cookouts, walking/hiking, swimming, hanging out with her family, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Cary and her husband Lance, son Rayan and daughter Shyla are excited to move back home to Green Bay.
Cary has a Ph.D. from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, M.S.W. from UW-Green Bay and a B.A. from Alverno College.
