Roommates

Housing sign up wasn’t too long ago, and for me the key to a happy year on campus is finding great roommates to spend your time with! Here are some traits of the roommate best avoided.

1. The Borrower: We all know who these people are. Whether it be your clothes or your notes, a roommate who borrows everything is never appreciated.

2. The Slob: Having a messy roommate is never fun to live with. Clean up, do your dishes, and shower on a regular basis.

3. The Bad Communicator: Communication is key among roommates. If you have a problem with someone you’re living with, how are you supposed fix it with out talking to them?

4. The Hover Craft: Having a roommate who continues to invade your personal space can become annoying and exhausting. Back off once in awhile.

5. The Know-It-All: It’s impossible to be right 100% of the time. Having roommates is about making compromises and coming to an agreement on the issues you’re having.

If you get stuck with a roommate who possesses one or more of these qualities, you might want to…

1. Leave Your Problems At the Door: Gossiping and bring more people into an argument or issue is never good. Instead, sit down and talk it out just between the two of you, or talk to your RA for some advice.

2. Come to an Agreement: Work your issues out, and do your best to start over!

3. Keep Trying: Don’t give up just because you and your roommate had one argument. Do your best to solve it, and don’t hold a grudge!

Admitted & Committed

Admitted students day was this past Friday, March 5th!

Students who have already been admitted for the fall ’10 semester had the opportunity to revisit and rediscover all of the wonderful and exciting things that UWGB has to offer them. Students participated in fun activities like basketball at the Kress, unlimited games at the Phoenix Club, and pictures in the University Bookstore display window while modeling their FREE t-shirt!

From the Heart

Hey Bloggers!

This past weekend, I’ve had a life changing experience! I was able to attend one of the most influential and inspirational leadership conferences in my entire life, called Leadership From the Heart.  This leadership conference was brought to UWGB by Student Life, and was free to all students willing to apply.  At first, I was a little skeptical about committing my entire weekend to one conference, but after the first couple of hours all of my inhibitions were gone!  This conference changed my entire outlook on life, teaching me to step outside of my own comfort zone to achieve success.  By the end of this conference, I truly believe that I have changed for the better and have become more confident in myself and my work.  I encourage everyone (if you have the opportunity) to attend this leadership conference, or one like it to better yourselves  as a person and as a leader.  You won’t regret it!

See for Yourself

Hey guys!

Spring semester is underway here in Green Bay, and I’m really looking forward to new classes, new friends, and (let’s face it) a new season without any snow.  With spring coming up fast, most of you high school seniors (along with the expert guidance from your parents and friends) have already made or are making your final decisions as to which University you should attend.  For myself, a variety of different factors were important in making my decision for college, but after I visited the campus I was 100% sure I wanted to come to UW-Green Bay.

For those of you who are already admitted, it’s still not too late to come for a visit.  Another admitted student day is coming up on March 5th and there is still time to sign up!  Students will gain information on financial aid, get valuable classroom experience, and even get a special campus tour (different from one you have had previously!)

To sign up for admitted students day click here:  https://www.uwgb.edu/admissions/secure/asday.asp

There are also daily tours, campus preview days, group visits, and even overnight stays upon request. Click here to find out more and to apply! http://www.uwgb.edu/admissions/visit/index.asp

Don’t just take my word for it. Sign up and see UWGB for yourself! I promise you won’t regret it.

Have a good one!

Senioritis Anyone?

I think I had senioritis as a Junior in high school~can any one else relate?
It’s getting to be that time of year when Seniors are feeling the senioritis bug biting pretty hard. Do whatever it takes to avoid this disease-it can really hurt your chances of success in college. Did you know that colleges do “take-backs?” They do-trust me.
Seniors get accepted to colleges during the fall of their senior year and then kinda sit back and enjoy Senior year not realizing that when you graduate, colleges get your final transcript from your high school. We see how bad senioritis really is…we see the low grades, dropped course or fluffy senior years. Evidence at UWGB shows that students whose gpa drops or they drop courses senior year tend to do poorly when they come to UWGB. So we have gotten a little tougher with senioritis victims- it’s called rescinding admissions (AKA: take-back).
So I know the senioritis disease is catchy and spreading in your high school. Avoid it. Do whatever you can to finish your senior year well. Trust me, you will be glad you did.
If you already have senioritis and you think it might be influencing your grade point average…let us know what’s going on. It’s much better to hear it from you rather than on your final transcript. We are here to help you-please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Where’s Phlash!?

Hello!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, despite the terrible weather conditions!

While at home over break, I’ve decided to play a little game with you all! Before finals were done, I took my little Phlash the Phoenix doll around campus and took pictures. Your job is to figure out where on campus the picture was taken. Some will be harder than others, but overall it should be fun! I’ll be posting one or two pictures a week, so keep your eyes peeled for them.

Good luck, and Happy Holidays! :)
