Comfort at Home

yoga poseWith the pandemic still in full swing, it is more important than ever to take care of yourself and the people around you. As such, we have compiled a few things you can do at home to help relax in the stressful times we find ourselves in.

Yoga: Since a new semester is upon us, it may feel a little difficult to get back into the move and groove of the new term. A good way to kick-start the grind is to do some yoga. Yoga can be done just about anywhere, with few to no accessories or equipment. And, it can be great for waking up, cooling down after a workout, improving flexibility, and more, all while being a tremendous relaxing activity, both for the body and mind. There are plenty of yoga channels and standalone instruction videos on Youtube that vary in length and difficulties. Some channels to check out would be Yoga with Adriene and BohoBeautiful Yoga.

Movie Theatre at Home: Whether it’s the middle of the day or late at night, creating your own movie theatre is never a bad idea. In fact, you’d be doing yourself a favor by: staying safe, watching a movie of your choice, giving yourself some relaxation time, and saving money! What more needs to be said?!

Here are a few suggested films to make your movie theatre night relaxing and unforgettable:

  1. Harry Potter (All seven movies. Take this time to escape from the muggle world.)
  2. Pirates of the Caribbean (Only the first three, ’cause you know … they’re better)
  3. The Holiday (A Christmas rom-com, and primarily because Cameron Diaz is just great.)
  4. The Hobbit Trilogy (Take yourself on an adventure, pun intended…)
  5. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Need I say more about this one?)

Get a Pen Pal: During the pandemic, it’s hard to keep social. You can’t meet in groups or attend many events. Everything jumped into the virtual world of emails, phone calls, social media, and video calls. So how do we connect with people physically while living in a virtual world? Old-school penpals. I challenge you to pick up any paper and write the longest letter you can. Then fold it neatly to be stuffed in a freshly stamped envelope ready to be placed in the mailbox and begin its journey to your new pen pal. The internal bubbles that are created when you hold your first return letter will make the wait of using a mailing service worth it.

“Worldwide Snail Mail Pen Pals” is a Facebook group you can use to find penpals from all over the world. However, because this is a Facebook group, I recommend making sure the person you want to become pen pals with is real and seems trustworthy. For safety, use a post office (PO) box instead of exchanging street addresses.
