Production Dates: April 20-22 and April 26

Directed by Alan Kopiscke

NOTE: The performance on April 26 is part of the Stage Door Series at The Weidner; this is a matinee performance and will require those auditioning to commit to touring the production to the Weidner with rehearsals on April 24 & 25

Actors will be asked to read one or two of the provided SKM scenes & monologues (link below) and may also present a prepared monologue from any play.

SKM Audition Monologue_Scene options by Character

Please note that there are multiple instances of intimacy, combat, and dance involved. Each character’s description will note whether that character engages in those activities. All characters are teen high schoolers. This is a queer-friendly play.

CHARACTERS

AGNES is a HS Senior mourning the death of her parents and younger sister. She is traditional and naive. She is average but trying to transcend that.

      • Intimacy – Agnes may share some modest moments of intimacy with boyfriend, Miles
      • Combat – Agnes engages in significant combat
      • Dance – Agnes engages in some dance

TILLY is mostly seen as her D&D avatar character, Tillius the Paladin, a total badass warrior, who is defiant and impatient. Tilly herself is an insecure nerdy teen, who is bullied for her sexuality.

      • Intimacy – Tillius shares a passionate kiss with Lilith
      • Combat – Tillius engages in significant combat

VERA is Agnes’ best friend, a snarky HS Senior who works at the Gap. Vera also appears as Vera the Beholder.

MILES is Agnes’ football jock boyfriend, emotionally awkward but sincere. Miles also appears as Miles the Doppelganger.

      • Intimacy – Miles may share some modest moments of intimacy with his girlfriend, Agnes
      • Combat – Miles engages in minimal combat

CHUCK is a HS First Year geekster, D&D Dungeon Master. He’s big for his age and worried that he’s fat.

LILITH is a D&D Demon Warrior, a perfect combination of beauty & brawn, the devil’s daughter. Violence makes her hot. In this world, she is Lily, who was Tilly’s best friend and has unresolved feelings about Tilly.

      • Intimacy – Lilith shares a passionate kiss with Tillius
      • Combat – Lilith engages in significant combat

KALIOPE is a lean, athletic dark elf lacking in emotional awareness. She’s in the mood for danger. In this world, she is Kelly, a shy girl who uses forearm crutches because she has cerebral palsy.

      • Combat – Kaliope engages in significant combat

ORCUS is an over-sized red demon, the former overlord of the underworld, who has tired of being attacked by so-called adventurers and now prefers to watch TV. In this world, he is Ronny, a normal, TV-obsessed teen.

      • Combat – Orcus engages in significant combat
      • Dance – Agnes engages in some dance

STEVE is an awkward, aspiring mage/warrior who repeatedly dies ignominiously in combat. In this world, Steve is an awkward teen.

      • Combat – Steve engages in some combat

NARRATOR/FARAH/EVIL GABBI/EVIL TINA are roles under consideration for doubling.

NARRATOR is channeling her best Cate Blanchett in actively and engagingly introducing us to key elements of our story. She powerfully commands our attention and then slips away.

FARAH is a beautiful, dancing, singing fairy who kicks ass.

              • Combat – Farah engages in significant combat

EVIL GABBI/EVIL TINA are mean, homophobic bully cheerleaders. In this world, Gabbi/Tina are much the same, but better at putting a pleasant face on that.

              • Combat – Evil Gabbi/Evil Tina engage in significant combat
              • Dance – Evil Gabbi/Evil Tina engage in some kick-ass dancing

Bugbears/Wraiths/Cavalcade of Monsters/Tiamat Puppeteers are non-speaking roles that will engage in some combat. There may be some doubling of these folks with the above 4 roles and/or as deck crew.

FALL AUDITIONS, 2022

UW-GREEN BAY THEATRE & DANCE

UW-Green Bay Theatre and Dance welcomes ALL current UWGB students to participate in all aspects of production work.

FALL 2022 PRODUCTION INFORMATION

PRODUCTION #1

THE EFFECT

by Lucy Prebble

Production Dates: October 13-15, 21-22

Directed by Rebecca Stone Thornberry

Synopsis: Dr. Lorna James and Dr. Toby Sealey are conducting a medical drug trial testing the effects of a new anti-depressant. When two participants (Connie and Tristan) fall for one another, how can anyone be sure of where their feelings originate? Could their deepest emotions be caused by the drug? Connie and Tristan try to discover the origins of their feelings for one another and to manipulate the drug trial in their favor, but this may prove to be their undoing. Dr. Lorna James and Dr. Toby Sealey’s relationship stands in counterpoint to Connie and Tristan’s. The two doctors have a troubled past relationship as well as differences in their beliefs about whether depression can be successfully medicated. Through the interplay of science, psychology, love, and romance, Lucy Prebble’s play examines bodily autonomy, choice, and human connection.

Please be aware that this play contains strong language, kissing, and depictions of sexual activity. The department plans to consult an intimacy coordinator. An audition disclosure form will be included with the regular audition form.

Character descriptions:

Note: Actors should be comfortable playing the characters’ genders and ages but do not have to themselves be those genders / ages.

      • Lorna James: Female. 47. A former smoker. Has had a former sexual relationship with Toby. Suffers from depression but refuses to use medication to control it. Precise and clinical. Believes she is fully in charge of the experiment. English dialect.
      • Toby Sealey: Male. 45. Believes in the efficacy of the drug. Has had a former sexual relationship with Lorna. Believes Lorna should use medication to control her depression. Has a sense of humor. Does not know if he can trust Lorna with the experiment. English dialect.
      • Connie Hall: 26. Has a boyfriend. This is her first paid study and she’s not sure what to expect. Nervous and anxious to please, she loosens up after meeting Tristan. Presents as wealthier and more educated than Tristan. English dialect.
      • Tristan Frey: 30. An Irishman who is also a decent tap dancer. A casual smoker. He’s done lots of these studies, is a bit of a rebel, and takes pride in breaking the rules. Irish dialect.

PRODUCTION #2

If/Then

Music by Tom Kitt

Book and Lyrics by Brian Yorkey

Production Dates: November 17-19

Directed by Thomas Campbell

Music Direction by Benjamin Olejniczak

Choreography by Denise Carlson-Gardner

Synopsis: Elizabeth, a recent divorcée, has returned to New York City to reignite her life and find a new purpose. At the outset of this contemporary musical, Elizabeth is presented with a moment, a seemingly innocuous moment where she is presented with a choice. At this point, Elizabeth’s story is split, and we get to track her life following two different trajectories – one where she makes the choice, another where she makes a different choice. In one life we follow Beth, who takes a phone call that leads to a lucrative profession as a city planner. In the other life, we follow Liz, who does not take the phone call and falls in love with a young doctor. Both stories share the same characters and show how their lives are impacted by a single person and the choices they make.

Please be aware that this play contains strong language, kissing, and depictions of sexual activity. The department plans to consult an intimacy coordinator. An audition disclosure form will be included with the regular audition form.
