UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary Miller emailed the following message to faculty and staff regarding the UW System Policy on Holiday Displays on Thursday, November 30, 2017.

It is important that we all understand the rights to expression related to Christmas trees and other displays on campus during the holiday season. Attached is some helpful guidance. Please take a few minutes to review and refresh yourself on UW System policies.

A Message from UW System President Ray Cross

The following message was sent from the UW-Green Bay Chancellor’s office to faculty and staff at the request of UW System President Ray Cross on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Dear UW System faculty and staff,

Today, the Board of Regents approved moving forward with a restructuring proposal for the UW System. The purpose of the restructuring is to expand access to higher education by leveraging the strength of our comprehensive and research institutions at our two-year campuses, and all two-year campuses will remain open.

It is important you know:
Student recruitment should still move forward as usual. We will continue to offer associate degrees at our two-year campuses, and the intent is to actually bring more classes onsite in the future.
Students will continue to be able to transfer to any UW institution of their choosing – just as they do now.

We will maintain existing tuition levels for classes currently offered at the two-year institutions to keep them affordable for students and families.
Demographics are changing rapidly in Wisconsin. We want to respond proactively to the urgency of the situation so that we can set a positive course for UW System’s future. In the spirit of the Wisconsin Idea, our goal is to continue to provide world-class public higher education, research, and outreach services into the 21st century and beyond. To do so, we must manage the demographic, enrollment, and financial challenges the two-year campuses face, while maintaining a sustainable, viable presence in these communities.

Now that the Regents have approved the concept, we will move forward into the implementation phase. We are committed to engaging students, faculty, staff, community leaders, and other stakeholders in making this a successful transition. Regional restructuring committees are being established, which will inform a central Steering Committee. All of our stakeholders will have a voice in this process, so please watch for upcoming events at your campus.

UW-Green Bay Names Charles Guthrie Ninth Athletics Director in Program History

The following message was sent on behalf of Chancellor Gary Miller via e-mail to the UW-Green Bay faculty and staff on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

I am pleased today to announce that Charles Guthrie has been named the ninth Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Guthrie, an athletics administrator with over 15 years in collegiate athletics, has spent the last three years as the Director of Athletics at San Francisco State and will begin the new role on November 6. A press conference to introduce Guthrie to the Green Bay community will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 4 p.m. in the Special Events Room at the Kress Events Center.

As Green Bay’s Director of Athletics, Charles will oversee a department offering 16 intercollegiate sports, serving 250 student-athletes and having reached tremendous heights in recent years. He will report directly to me and serve on my senior leadership team.

I am delighted to welcome Charles to the UW-Green Bay community as Athletic Director. He brings exactly the right expertise in NCAA athletics to move an already fantastic program to even higher levels. We were especially impressed with his strong community spirit, ability to work with coaches and staff, understanding of today’s complex NCAA environment, track record with compliance and his overall love of higher education, sports and student athletes.

Since joining San Francisco State, an NCAA Division II institution sponsoring 12 athletic programs, Guthrie has been responsible for strategic planning, implementing, coordinating and assessing core components of external relations, internal operations and compliance with a primary focus on the student-athlete experience, staff and coach development, and fundraising.

“I’m humbled and honored to assume the responsibility of leading Green Bay athletics into a new era,” Guthrie shared in the news release announcing his new position. “I am grateful to Chancellor Miller and the members of the search committee for their confidence in me to lead Phoenix Athletics to new heights. This is a tremendous opportunity to advance athletics excellence at UWGB commensurate with a tireless commitment to all aspects of the educational experience – all with a ‘Student First’ approach. I look forward to working with the coaches, faculty, staff and Green Bay community in advancing the Phoenix program.”

A Big Week, A Big Thank You

The UW-Green Bay Office of the Chancellor sent the following e-mail message from Chancellor Gary Miller to the campus community on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

University Community—

To say that we’re at the tail end of a big week is an understatement. It started with a visit from the Higher Learning Commission, a reflective process on where we are as an institution of higher education, and is ending with an announcement from the UW System that could significantly and positively impact the trajectory of UW-Green Bay.

It’s important that we end such a big week on a note of gratitude and celebration. I can’t thank all of you enough for the countless hours you put forward to prepare for and conduct the 10-year site visit. It’s extremely gratifying to see and hear so many of you represent your campus, your colleagues and your teaching with such great pride and passion.

I also want to specifically recognize a campus leader who has been living and breathing accreditation for the last year and a half.  A great visit can only happen with great leadership. For that, I hope you will join me in thanking and congratulating Clif Ganyard for his exceptional work in guiding us through this process. Your University and community are grateful for your expertise and leadership.

We are gathering tomorrow afternoon, Friday, October 13 from 4-5 p.m. in the Phoenix Club for a complimentary ice cream social to celebrate your work. I hope you can join us.

Congratulations again on a job well done and bringing this multi-year process to a close.

Proposed UW Colleges and UW-Extension Restructuring

The UW-Green Bay office of the Chancellor sent the following message to faculty, staff, students and trustees on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

Map of Proposed UW Colleges and UW-Extension RestructuringI attach a letter from UW-System President Ray Cross announcing his intention to recommend to the Board of Regents a significant realignment of UW Extension and the UW Colleges. Under the proposal, UW-Sheboygan, UW-Manitowoc and UW-Marinette would become part of UW-Green Bay.

The reorganization is to take effect on July 1, 2018. Implementation teams at both the System and Campus levels will begin the work of planning for this transition after Board of Regents approval.

We will work closely with Chancellor Sandeen and her leadership team to arrange visits to campus and the communities in the near future.

Our shared vision to grow and become a key driver of the economy, education outcomes and community vitality of Green Bay and the surrounding region will take an exciting step forward if the proposal is approved. You play a critical role in realizing that vision. I look forward to working with many of you to set the course for a successful transition and our expansion to a multi-campus university.
