Schools and Colleges within a University?
What do you mean there are schools and colleges within the University? What college do I join? Don’t worry—that trips up a lot of incoming students. Schools and colleges within a university are groups of similar academic majors, career paths or disciplines. Not every university has academic colleges within and the ones that do may vary a bit in how they divide their subjects.
Here’s an example of how we do it at UW-Green Bay. UW-Green Bay has four colleges: the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; the College of Health, Education and Social Welfare; the College of Science, Engineering and Technology; and the Cofrin School of Business.
A Rising Phoenix: Aleya B.
Aleya is a Green Bay Preble High School junior who is participating in the Rising Phoenix program—a collaboration between school districts and UW-Green Bay, providing students with a future-proofing blend of dual enrollment, ongoing student success coaching and an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree while still in high school. We asked for her thoughts on the program thus far, and what she thinks is in her future.

Beyond all of the visits and admitted student excitement, we’re also here for your rising students – freshmen, sophomores and juniors alike. Meagan Strehlow, Associate Executive Officer for K12 & Community Relations in the Division of Continuing Education and Community Engagement (CECE), has been working diligently with her staff to develop programming for your younger students. Summer events are coming soon, but CECE also offers a wide range of ways for students to earn college credits in high school or receive assistance through UW-Green Bay.
¡Vamos a estudiar!
A Rising Phoenix: Drew A.
Green Bay Preble High School student Drew is part of Rising Phoenix, a program that allows high school juniors and seniors to finish their high school diploma and earn an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree simultaneously. So, what does “dual enrollment” in high school and college look like for Drew?
What Does a College Schedule Look Like?
It won’t be quite like what you’ve gotten used to in high school. Say goodbye to the 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., five-day-a-week schedule, and hello to creating what works best for you! With adulthood comes responsibility – but flexibility too.

Last fall, I talked to you about the support services that allow your students to get off on the right foot here at UW-Green Bay. We always want to support our students and give them the best chance to succeed as they embark on their college journeys.
I want to assure you, the early support that our new students receive continues after their first semester. Our mission is to provide access to education for anyone who wants it, and the academic and personal services at UW-Green Bay help us do good by that mission. What are the Types of Campus Housing in College?
What are they like? Do college dorms have bathrooms?
These seem to be the questions running through students’ minds as they embark on the journey of finding the college they will attend. It can be nerve-wracking, moving away from your home and settling into a college dorm for the first time. Though it can be stressful, there are ways to avoid the stress of finding a space that works best for you!

From the Director’s Desk: Fall 2021
As we look forward to a new class of amazing students joining us this fall, I wanted to share a bit about our support systems that allow a wide variety of students to succeed here at UW-Green Bay. We are a multi-campus comprehensive university, with a deep commitment to diversity, inclusion, social justice, civic engagement, and access to education for all who seek it.
This past summer, we offered our first Bridge Program focused on assisting students toward success in their first year at UW-Green Bay. This program allowed select students to take foundational credit-bearing courses and partake in co-curricular activities in the weeks prior to the start of the fall semester. Our support programs utilize the weeks prior to the semester to create a longer, more gradual transition period for these students.
