Alumni Spotlight: April Hansen ’05
As Executive Vice President of Workforce Solutions and Clinical Services at Aya Healthcare, April Hansen ’05 (Nursing), RN, MSN, is responsible for the clinical and quality outcomes of more than 4,500 clinicians on assignment through Aya across the United States — including safe, effective and positive patient care. Under her leadership, we have achieved a more highly educated (70%+ BSN-Prepared), competent and diverse nursing workforce than any of our competitors in the travel nurse industry to date.
April is a nurse and an entrepreneur. She successfully co-founded a clinical management technology to ease the administrative burden of healthcare student clinical placements in 2012, and achieved a successful exit when the technology was acquired in 2016. In addition, she co-founded a mobile application for nursing engagement and achieved support through a nationally-ranked start-up accelerator in partnership with Microsoft in 2017. April currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Executives, serves as co-chair of the Membership Committee with WONE and in the past served as an elected member of the Wisconsin Nurses Association Public Policy Committee. She recently published her first scholarly article, Disruption Ahead: Navigating and Leading the Future of Nursing, for Nursing Administration Quarterly. April was named the 2019 Nurse Leader of the Year by the Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Leaders, and is also named to the Staffing Industry Analysts 40 under 40 this year. April was named to Becker’s Rising Stars list in 2018.
