Riddle us this – what do Valentine’s Day and the UW-Green Bay scholarship deadline have in common? They are (almost) the same day! Love is sweet, but so is free money for your education. Be your own valentine and submit your scholarship application by February 15.
Scholarships are free money that will help you fund your education. You do not have to pay the money back (like a loan). In this post, we’ll go over UW-Green Bay Foundation Scholarships as well as learn more from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation about the scholarships they have available to students.
UW-Green Bay Foundation Scholarships
At UW-Green Bay, applying for scholarships through the foundation is easy as can be. You only need to submit one application and our system will automatically do the rest of the hard work for you. No more spending hours sifting through hundreds of listings and finding the ones you qualify for – that’s what our system does. This means you can dedicate more time and energy to your educational goals. There are no academic minimum requirements which means anyone can apply for scholarships to lower their college costs. Scholarships are not based solely on academics; they can be based on extracurricular activities, community involvement, program of study and many other factors. That is why everyone should apply! Remember, it’s free money that you do not have to pay back.
As mentioned earlier, February 15 is the deadline for maximum consideration. The scholarship selection process starts after February 15 with offers being sent to students as early as the beginning of March. It is also important to note that the scholarships are awarded for the upcoming academic year. Not sure if you’re coming to UW-Green Bay yet? No worries – the hard deadline for scholarship applications is June 30. Annually, over $1.3 million is awarded to students through these scholarships! Have some questions before you apply? Contact the knowledgeable folks in the Financial Aid office – they are here to help you.
Private Scholarships
In addition to UW-Green Bay scholarships, students are encouraged to apply for private scholarships. There are several local organizations who offer scholarships to students – one of them being the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation.
The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has over 100 scholarships available to graduating high school seniors and current college students. The best way to tell if you are eligible for a scholarship is to go to ggbcf.org/scholarships, scroll down to “Lets Get Started” and click on “qualify and register.” After filling out these quick nine questions, you will see what scholarships you are eligible for. Completing one application on our website allows you to be considered for all eligible scholarships, though some have additional requirements.
Scholarships are not just for 4.0 GPA students. There is a wide variety of scholarships out there that are awarded based on everything from need, academics or major to volunteer service, athletic participation or commitment to the community. The best advice the Foundation can give to students is to apply. You have to pay back loans one day, even if you do not graduate, but you do not have to pay back scholarships. Applications take about 1 hour to complete, and you can apply whether you are eligible for financial aid or not. Applications are due March 15.
If you have any questions about applying, please contact Katie Retzlaff from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation at katieretzlaff@ggbcf.org.
What are you waiting for? An hour or two of work now could turn into thousands of dollars to fund your education. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal if you ask us.
