What do you mean there are schools and colleges within the University? What college do I join? Don’t worry—that trips up a lot of incoming students. Schools and colleges within a university are groups of similar academic majors, career paths or disciplines. Not every university has academic colleges within and the ones that do may vary a bit in how they divide their subjects.
Here’s an example of how we do it at UW-Green Bay. UW-Green Bay has four colleges: the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; the College of Health, Education and Social Welfare; the College of Science, Engineering and Technology; and the Cofrin School of Business.
College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is a home for dreamers. Self-described as the curious and the creative, they explore not only what it means to be human, but how to articulate themselves more fully and firmly in the larger universe of ideas and expression.
CAHSS is the largest college at UW-Green Bay, housing 38 majors, minors and certificates. They also partner with several centers, like the Pride Center on campus and the Center for Food in Community and Culture. Students can get hands-on experience collaborating on different publications and media. Publish poetry for the Sheepshead Review or create a podcast in Phoenix Studios—the opportunities are endless!
Common majors include:
- Art
- Communications
- Democracy and Justice Studies
- Psychology
- Writing and Applied Arts
College of Health, Education and Social Welfare
The College of Health, Education and Social Welfare (CHESW) works to inspire students to transform their communities. Students develop a broader worldview and gain new strengths as well as the skills to fully contribute to the greater good of communities.
This college houses five large undergraduate majors and five graduate programs, including our First Nations Education doctorate program. Like CAHSS, CHESW also partners to support the greater Green Bay community. The Behavioral Health Training Partnership collaboratively informs, encourages and assures regional best practices in behavioral health services. Our Phuture Phoenix program provides an opportunity for middle school students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to know post-secondary education is important, attainable and available. Education major students in CHESW have the opportunity work with the K-12 students, getting practical field experience in their first year!
Common majors include:
- Education
- Health Information Management and Technology
- Nursing
- Social Work
College of Science, Engineering and Technology
The College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) provides a dynamic, hands-on approach to learning while fostering new and growing opportunities for students, faculty and the community.
CSET supports 12 undergraduate majors and three graduate programs in the STEM fields. The College includes the nationally acclaimed Cofrin Center for Biodiversity and the Environmental Management and Business Institute (EMBI). Undergraduate students also have access to laboratories and opportunities typically reserved for graduate-level courses and programs, including a cadaver lab and original research experiences.
The most recent addition to the CSET offerings is the Brown County STEM Innovation Center, which houses the Resch School of Engineering, The Einstein Project, Brown County Extension and Brown County’s Land and Water Conservation offices.
Common majors in CSET include:
- Computer Science

Cofrin School of Business
Cofrin School of Business students are a daring source of untapped confidence. They’re driven by disrupting the norm and inventing the future through innovation. The college’s degree programs don’t just teach students—they learn by doing, giving them an experience they can put on their résumés.
The college supports 23 undergraduate majors, minors and certificates, several of which are available completely online. Students can also continue onto one of the college’s three graduate programs. School of Business students can join one (or more!) of the 11 business-related student organizations, and the mentorship program, and utilize our new hands-on experiential spaces. The Charles Schwab Foundation Center for Personal Financial Planning not only gives students the opportunity to provide financial support but also learn skills like budgeting or filing taxes.
Our newest space, the Willie D. Davis Finance and Investment Lab, was partly financed by the Green Bay Packers in honor of the late Packers great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Willie Davis—a passionate learner with interests in finance and investing. The lab includes a trading simulation lab with tickers and terminals but also allows students to use real money for real investing experience through the Student Managed Investment Fund.
Common majors include:

- Marketing
No matter the major or the college that students choose here at UW-Green Bay, the faculty are dedicated to each and every student’s learning and future successes. The hands-on experiences—both on and off our campuses—build students’ resumes before they’ve graduated.
