UW-Green Bay announces recipients of ‘Distinguished,’ ‘Recent’ alumni awards

2alumni award winners past presentThe University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will recognize five meritorious graduates of the institution at the 2014 Alumni Association Awards Night on Thursday evening, May 1.

This year’s honorees are Craig Dickman, Class of 1982, Constance Downs ’96, and Bob Pyle, ’83, each receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award; and JoAnn Miller ’01 and Crystal Osman ’08, recipients of the Outstanding Recent Alumni Award. The annual program spotlights UW-Green Bay alumni who have made special contributions to the University, their communities and professions. The ceremony takes place in the Grand Foyer of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the campus at 2420 Nicolet Drive, Green Bay. The event is open to the public. It begins with a 5 p.m. social and includes dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the program. The cost is $35 per person. Help Wanted – Alumni Association Board Members

Your AlumHelp Wantedni Association Board is seeking board members. This is a great way to reconnect with the University and give back to your alma mater. The board meets bimonthly on the third Tuesday of the month from 6 to 7:30 pm.

The UWGB Alumni Association engages our alumni and friends to build lifelong relationships that advance the continuing success of the University. To forward this mission, the Alumni Association Board strives to be diverse in careers, graduation years and gender.

Alumni Phone-A-Thon

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Alumni Phone-A-Thon students have recently begun calling for the spring semester to update alumni records and raise funds for the University. This group of seventeen students enjoys connecting with alumniPhone-A-Thon and learning about the history of campus while raising vital funds for the Annual Fund and receiving valuable work experience. The Annual Fund supports academic programs and scholarships, and last year, in part thanks to alumni support through the Phone-A-Thon, 47 students received $60,000 in scholarships! This year, the callers’ goal is to surpass last year’s total of approximately $110,000.

If you receive a phone call from the Alumni Phone-A-Thon, and do not feel comfortable providing information over the telephone, please know you can update your contact information on the alumni website and you can give a gift via mail or online. Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps Opportunities

Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity is seeking two quality candidates to complete a one-year AmeriCorps VISTA commitment. These are both full-time positions offered through the Corporation for National and Community Service. This is considered a VOLUNTEER position, although a monthly subsistence allowance is provided. Health care coverage, child care, and a post-service stipend or education award are also included.

Green Bay Habitat ReStore:
Responsibilities will include increasing the quantity and quality of products sold through targeted solicitation of donated products for resale. Activities include research and report on potential donors of new goods, develop and implement an online donation pick-up request form, and improve the donor correspondence program. Retail experience is helpful, but not required. A passion for community service, recycling and the mission of Habitat for Humanity is essential.

“A Brush with Kindness” Program Developer
: ABWK is an exterior home preservation program that offers painting, landscaping and minor repair services to eligible homeowners so they can continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come. Projects include painting, landscaping, weatherization and minor repair services. The development of this program includes the creation of a system to identify and assess need and eligibility of ABWK applicants, develop a volunteer recruitment and management plan and the development of collaborative partnerships to support expansion of the affiliate’s volunteer efforts.
