Local Authors Launch New Memoir on Saturday, August 10, at 2 Roots

EAU CLAIRE, WI – 08/05/2024 – In the words of Wisconsin author Dr. Ann Gentry Recine, “People all over the world are interested in stories of losing a home and finding it again, because that is the human story.”

Recine, along with her husband Lou, share this human story in their new book, Home Again and Again: Recollections, Stories, Guideposts, a funny yet moving collection of memories and reflections. A celebration of the book will take place on August 10, 2024 at 5:30 pm at 2 Roots Art & Wine Gallery located at 216 S Barstow St, Eau Claire, WI. This event is free and open to the public.

Ann Gentry Recine and Lou Recine

A longtime Wisconsin resident, Recine charmingly recounts her homemaking and wayfinding through life as a child, newlywed, mother, grandmother, counselor, nurse, and UW-Eau Claire professor. Her recollections include growing up on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus during the turbulent 1960s, playing basketball with monks, sailing through history, and creating a home with Lou, her husband of 47 years.

Advance readers praise Recine’s “masterful,” “playful,” and “creative” style. The book also features guideposts for reflection and interactive exercises—and a few of Recine’s favorite family recipes.

Most of all, Recine says, the book is about hope.

“Home Again and Again is about finding and re-finding the peace and strength of home. It’s about the low door in the garden wall that opens to a growth mindset of hope,” she says.

“In our littleness, we don’t know what the future will bring, but for me, hope has come through stories about what home is or could be and through science and faith. I especially want these stories to help when someone is in the ‘thick of it.’ I hope they will serve as that blue sky and patch of bright white clouds we look for on a rainy day and treasure on a clear day.”

In keeping with her career as a college professor and nurse, Recine enlisted the editorial services of the undergraduate editors of The Teaching Press at the University of WisconsinGreen Bay. According to Project Manager and UW-GB senior Allie Wendricks, “This book was a great learning opportunity for all of us.”

Dotters Books will be taking pre-orders at the August 10 launch event, and via their website.
