Thanks to generous support from Aurora BayCare Medical Center, aspiring nurses selected to receive Aurora BayCare Medical Center scholarships this Fall were recognized at a reception on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the STEM Innovation Center on the Green Bay campus.
“Something that inspired me to be a nurse is I know that the Hispanic community is growing quickly in Green Bay and I really want to help them,” said Karen Gonzalez Alvarez, a senior who expects to graduate in May with a major in nursing and a minor in psychology.
Aurora BayCare supported 10 students this year through two scholarship funds. The Aurora Inspire Nurses Scholarship is offered to Pre-Nursing freshman students, and the Aurora Future Nurses scholarship is awarded to sophomore through senior Nursing majors, and can be renewed each year for students who remain eligible.
The support from Aurora BayCare will ramp up over the next three years, awarding as many as 34 students with scholarship funding in Fall 2025.
“Today we’re here to celebrate our future nursing workforce,” said Heather Schroeder, Vice President and Chief Nurse Officer for Aurora BayCare Medical Center.
Scholarship recipients spoke about their career goals and what inspired them to go into Nursing. Each was presented with a backpack and a pin from Aurora BayCare.
The 2023-2024 scholarship application will open Sept. 26. All students need only apply one time through the online application to become eligible for the Aurora BayCare scholarships, as well as all others offered through the UW-Green Bay Foundation.
