“Literature is one of the most interesting and significant expressions of humanity.” —P.T. Barnum
Widows and orphans are the single lines and words at the beginning of a page or end of a paragraph left dangling out in no man’s land. They are the bane of publishers everywhere. Similarly, this blog, titled “Widows and Orphans,” is for English lovers who live their lives out in no man’s land, those who appreciate everything the English language has to offer, including—and perhaps especially—the widows and orphans.
The Widows and Orphans blog is run by the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay English Department and the UW-Green Bay Creative Interns. We want to spread the word of UW-Green Bay’s English program while creating an online community for our current students, prospective students, alumni, sponsors, faculty and staff—really, the entire world—to share the love of books, literature, words, and all things English-related.
We have a news section, a how-to section, alumni features, calendar of UW-Green Bay English and community events, our Indented podcast, and more. If you love English as much as we do, then you are in the right place.
