AUDITION NOTICE: Spring 2025

AUDITIONS FOR

The Angel Next Door by Paul Slade Smith

WHEN: Thursday, November 21, 2024

UW-Green Bay Theatre and Dance welcomes ANY current UWGB students to participate in all aspects of production work. Theatre & Dance majors and minors are expected to work on at least one production each semester to further the techniques and methods being taught in their coursework.

All roles will be cast with an open eye regarding the gender identity of the actor, but the gender presentation of the role must be as written.

There are no scenes of intimacy, but there may be some playfully flirtatious interactions (including some touch) between them as well as moments of casual physical touch.

As a farce, this is a physically active play demanding full commitment to physical energy and precision throughout.

Please consider all of the above as you prepare to audition.

At auditions, comic monologues from other plays will be available to read.

You give yourself the best chance at securing a role if you come prepared with:

    • a memorized comic monologue or a memorized comic scene with a partner (Best)
    • a prepared, unmemorized comic monologue (next best)
    • a cold reading of a comic monologue (good)

The above is the hierarchy of what is likely to be most effective, but all are encouraged to audition and will be given a full opportunity to secure a role.

ABOUT THE PLAY:

The Setting: Newport, Rhode Island 1948

The Characters:

CHARLOTTE SANDERS, a successful Broadway playwright smart, resourceful, optimistic female, 50’s to 60’s

OLIVER WILLIAMS, a young novelist handsome, full of promise, still unsure of himself male, early- to mid-20’s

ARTHUR SANDERS, Charlotte’s husband and co-playwright a pessimist to her optimist, delighted to be her foil male, 50’s to 60’s

OLGA, the Housekeeper a nebulous Eastern European accent – from the Old Country a proudly unhelpful servant, intimidating, a little frightening female, 40’s to 70’s

MARGOT BELL, a Broadway singer and actress should be a singer easily cast as the beautiful ingenue, but realizing she’s wiser and stronger than the characters she plays female, mid-20’s to early 30’s

VICTOR PRATT, a Broadway leading man – and an idiot impressively self-involved and – in his mind – the handsomest, sexiest, manliest man on Broadway. Always a beat behind. male, mid-30’s to 40’s

Theatre and Dance- June 1, 2020

Greetings !

The Spring 2020 semester was full of surprises, challenges, and change. Our routines were disrupted, classes were transformed by AD (alternative delivery,) and productions were suddenly stopped mid-process. The formalities that mark the ending of semester and school year, and for some, the successful completion of their degree, were sorely missed.

A long-standing tradition of the UWGB Theatre and Dance Program has been Coarse Awards, a celebration of accomplishments, served up with with creative diversions and a “light meal,” by the good people of Alternate Theatre. We watch a slide-show of production photos and spontaneous shots of students in their natural habitats, celebrate our graduating class, and recognize student accomplishments with awards and scholarships.

On behalf of the faculty and staff of UWGB Theatre and Dance, I am pleased to present the Theatre Awards for 2020. The recipients names will be added to the plaques in the University Theatre Lobby.

Excellence in Production ………………………………. Hayden Barlass

Excellence in Performance ……………………………………. Faith Klick

Excellence in Dramaturgy/ Playwriting ……….. Alyssa Hannam

Outstanding Theatre Students … Faith Klick and Chay Schmitt

Congratulations!

As our plans for the ’20-’21 academic year and production season develop, I will be posting updates. Stay in touch, let us know what you’re doing, stay safe and healthy.

We’ll leave a light on for you!

Laura Riddle

Chair of Theatre and Dance
