Studio Proposals for 2022-2023 Season

Proposals for Studio Productions for the 2022-2023 academic year will be accepted with a deadline of Monday, April 25, 2022.  Proposals should be sent to:
Dr. Thomas Campbell, Chair of Theatre and Dance
campbelt@uwgb.edu
We haven’t had Studio productions for a few years now. Studios provide students with directing, design, performance, and an abundance of other creative opportunities. Past Studio productions have included
one-act and full-length plays, often material not usually produced on the Mainstage
      recent titles include
Exit, Pursued by a Bear, Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it All,
short plays by Franca Rame, Boiling People in My Coffee, and
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)
   original, student-written works
   cabaret-style and variety shows
staged readings including In the Next Room, one-acts by Neil Labute,
and Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, The Good Body,
and I am an Emotional Creature
a devised piece telling the stories of Peter Pan and The Little Match Girl
with movement, music, puppets, and lots of fabric!
Please read the attached guidelines for details. I also strongly encourage those interested in directing a Studio production speak to Dr. Campbell to toss around ideas.  The attached document also includes the Studio Proposal Cover Sheet.
I have also attached 2 samples of past Studio Proposals. Both were approved. The second was approved as a “Workshop” (developing new material)

Mourning the loss of her bestie, Jay, Dee cannot imagine life without her best friend. She withdraws into her imagination and memory, seeking comfort from the harsh realities of the outside.

RED is an unflinching and bold exploration of the internal lives of young women. It is part of Platform, an initiative from Tonic Theater in England, whose mission is to achieve greater gender balance in its workforces and repertoire. Platform commissions large-cast plays with predominately or all female casts, written specifically for performance by young actors.

Theatre and Dance- June 1, 2020

Greetings !

The Spring 2020 semester was full of surprises, challenges, and change. Our routines were disrupted, classes were transformed by AD (alternative delivery,) and productions were suddenly stopped mid-process. The formalities that mark the ending of semester and school year, and for some, the successful completion of their degree, were sorely missed.

A long-standing tradition of the UWGB Theatre and Dance Program has been Coarse Awards, a celebration of accomplishments, served up with with creative diversions and a “light meal,” by the good people of Alternate Theatre. We watch a slide-show of production photos and spontaneous shots of students in their natural habitats, celebrate our graduating class, and recognize student accomplishments with awards and scholarships.

On behalf of the faculty and staff of UWGB Theatre and Dance, I am pleased to present the Theatre Awards for 2020. The recipients names will be added to the plaques in the University Theatre Lobby.

Excellence in Production ………………………………. Hayden Barlass

Excellence in Performance ……………………………………. Faith Klick

Excellence in Dramaturgy/ Playwriting ……….. Alyssa Hannam

Outstanding Theatre Students … Faith Klick and Chay Schmitt

Congratulations!

As our plans for the ’20-’21 academic year and production season develop, I will be posting updates. Stay in touch, let us know what you’re doing, stay safe and healthy.

We’ll leave a light on for you!

Laura Riddle
