The UW-Green Bay Library is excited to announce a new open educational resource (OER) to support student research skills: Information Literacy: A Practical Guide. This hands-on book walks students through the research process, from developing questions and search strategies to evaluating sources and integrating them into academic writing. It emphasizes critical thinking, helps students recognize bias and credibility, and highlights campus resources like the Learning Center and Research Help services.

Developed by the Library’s Research Services team (Renee Ettinger, Anna Merry, Jodi Pierre, Carli Reinecke, and Brian Schlender), this resource supports UW-Green Bay’s core curriculum information literacy requirement but can be adapted across disciplines. A companion scaffolded research journal assignment is also available, contact your liaison librarian to learn more.

We invite you to explore Information Literacy: A Practical Guide and consider integrating it into your courses to support students’ research and critical thinking. You can link to individual chapters, and if you’d like to use our Canvas integration with self-grading reading checks, please complete this short survey.
