The University Union meeting spaces are now “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD)
This summer, the University Union has converted many of its meeting rooms to “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) operations. Instead of using a shared PC in the room, you’ll simply bring your own laptop to display information onto the screen in the meeting room. Equipment will be available in each room to plug your laptop into a docking station on the podium, which allows instant access to your laptop and everything on it. You will be able to view your laptop screen on the projector or TV monitor and gain access to the webcam in the room without navigating any other menus, screens, or swapping cords or cables. Each room that is BYOD-friendly is included with instructions to help set up your device.
Rooms in the University Union that are BYOD-friendly include:
- World Unity A
- World Unity B
- Room 125
- Wequiock
- Manistique
- Third Floor Conference Rooms
- 1965 Room (coming mid-September)
Rooms that are not yet supported by BYOD and include PCs are:
- Christie Theatre
- Phoenix Room B
- Alumni Room
Because you’re using your own computer, you won’t have to log in to any programs like Teams or OneDrive, and you’ll know exactly where to find all your files, shortcuts, and browser bookmarks. BYOD cuts down on the amount of two-factor authentication prompts, and is more secure because you don’t have to remember to sign out of applications.
Don’t have your own laptop or forgot to bring it to the meeting? No worries! We will be happy to loan out a Union laptop for your meeting, and if you let us know ahead of time we will have it up and running when you arrive. As always, University Union staff is always available to help with any questions or support needed. Please call the University Union Building Manager at 920-366-1889 if you need assistance.
