Nursing Students partner with Brown County Public Health
Senior nursing students participating in their Population/Community Health Practicum received training from Prevent Blindness Wisconsin to become Certified Vision Screeners. This allowed them to partner with Brown County Public Health to provide vision screenings to Green Bay Public School District students across the city. This fall, the nursing students screened 2580 students in grades 4K, K, 1, 3 and 5 and referred 649 of them for further evaluation. Undiagnosed vision issues can contribute to a child’s development, learning and behavior. Some childhood vision disorders, if left untreated, can affect a child’s vision for their lifetime, so early screening is crucial.
