Professor Christine Vandenhouten Elected to the Board of Directors for the Association for Vascular Access
Director of Nursing Professor Christine Vandenhouten was elected to the 2024-2025 Board of Directors of the Association for Vascular Access (AVA), a multidisciplinary association of healthcare professionals that promotes the vascular access specialty through research and professional and public education to improve healthcare outcomes through evidence-based innovations in vascular access. Dr. Vandenhouten will join fellow board members at a Board orientation retreat in Denver Colorado in January. She became involved in AVA when a former RN-BSN alumni, Mark Hunter MS, BScN RN, CRNI, VA-BC invited her to join a team of AVA colleagues to design an international research study examining how nursing schools in the U.S. and Canada teach vascular access content in the curriculum. She and the team published two articles including “Addressing the Silence: A Need for Peripheral Intravenous Education in North America.” In addition, she assisted in the development of an online, PIV curriculum for adoption by nursing schools and health systems. The UW-Green Bay traditional nursing students participate in the online PIV curriculum during their advanced skills course.
