AmeriCorps VISTA for Center for Civic Engagement | Dallas, TX In-Service Training

Last week, Blai Yang, the new Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA for the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), attended a 3-day In-Service Training in Dallas, Texas. The training involved workshops such as applying equity lenses, speaking with confidence, and developing resources to support VISTA’s projects. There were plenty of networking opportunities, as 150 VISTAs participated. Others serve in California, Tennessee, Florida, Hawaii, and many more.

What do AmeriCorps VISTAs do? AmeriCorps VISTAs from all over the nation serve for one year and help to alleviate poverty issues through capacity building. Some focuses are higher education, economic development, healthy futures, and veterans and military families. Through these various focus areas, VISTAs strengthen communities in different ways. Yang’s service is to support UWGB students by developing the Civic and Community Engagement Certificate program, which was launched last Spring semester.
