On August 20, UW-Green Bay hosted an Applied Writing and English (AWE) College Credit in High School (CCIHS) retreat comprised of faculty mentors and the corresponding CCIHS faculty to discuss pressing issues on pedagogy, mental health initiatives and AI in the classroom. Faculty mentors in attendance were Roshelle Amundson, Paul Belanger, Tara DaPra, Zack Kruse, Valerie Murrenus Pilmaier, Rebecca Nesvet, Kris Purzycki, Jennifer Ronsman and Chris Williams.

Murrenus Pilmaier facilitated discussions on the disconnect between faculty expectations and student realities, as well as the mental health landscape for students in Wisconsin, and Paul Belanger and Kris Purzycki led a workshop on creating AI policies for the classroom. The group decided that this retreat will now be an annual event.

The CCIHS program enables students from select high schools to take college courses in the high school setting that count for both high school and college credit. This program saves students thousands of dollars of tuition credit, while also increasing their confidence in taking college courses and sets them up for success in transitioning to the college environment. UW-Green Bay has over 4,000 students enrolled in CCIHS courses.
