University Union renovations set to begin June 17

Rendering of the Einstein Bros. Bagels concept

The University Union is undergoing three major renovations this summer. The following changes will be in place starting Monday, June 17 until the beginning of Fall semester.

  • On June 17, coffee service will be relocated to the Garden Cafe (lower level of Cofrin library)
  • The University Union housing entrance will be inaccessible. Please use the MAC Circle or Bookstore entrance for access to the University Union.
  • A large portion of the main level of the University Union will not be accessible, which include men’s and women’s restrooms, Phoenix Rooms A and B, the 1965 Room, the Common Grounds Coffeehouse, and the staircase leading to the lower and third levels.
  • The main level will be inaccessible via the lower level elevator (near the Esports lounge), but the elevator near the Multicultural Resource Center/Phoenix Club will still allow access to the main level.

Access to UW Credit Union, the University Ticketing & Information Center, The Phoenix Bookstore, Phoenix Room C, and Leona Cloud Commons will not be interrupted. The University Union third floor administration offices can be accessed through the Phoenix Rooms back stairwell or via the lower level elevator (near the Esports Lounge).

Overview of renovation projects:

  • Common Grounds Coffeehouse: We are excited to welcome Einstein Bros. Bagels to campus in Fall 2024. This new option will include bagels & shmear, sandwiches, coffee, tea, and other options.
  • 1965 Room: This work will allow us to expand the seating during high traffic times while modernizing the meeting space. We are working to upgrade the technology in the 1965 Room, which will allow easier hybrid meetings.
  • Main Level Flooring: We are replacing the original quarry tile with a terrazzo floor that will help brighten the space and create a more welcoming environment for our students, faculty, staff and guests.

If you have any questions about these reservations, please contact the Associate Director of Union Operations, Staci Baumann at baumanns@uwgb.edu.
