Prof. Wefferling published article highlighting ‘state record’ moss

Dr. Keir Wefferling, Assistant Professor of Biology and Curator of the Fewless Herbarium (Cofrin Center for Biodiversity) recently published an article highlighting a “State record” moss (i.e., a species not previously documented in Wisconsin), the tufted fen moss, Paludella squarrosa. Keir and colleagues found this moss growing in a boreal rich fen in 2021, and documented it’s occurrence along with the other nonvascular and vascular plants of the site in Oconto County, WI.
