New “First Nations Education” Academic Department
A new, stand-alone academic unit has been approved by respective units and Deans, governance bodies, and the Provost and Chancellor. The unit, located in the College of Health, Education, and Social Welfare (CHESW), is composed of:
- First Nations Studies (FNS) undergraduate program
- EdD in First Nations Education (FNED)
- Center for First Nations Education
The unification of these three entities affirms a holistic approach to Indigenous education. The scope and mission of these entities is holistic and includes interdisciplinary First Nations academic fields of study, student success, retention, and outreach to Tribal Nations. Dr. Lisa Poupart is the Chair of this new department.
UW-Green Bay’s mission alignment exercise (surveys in Feb 2023) brought this to the surface – the exercise asked units to look at where they could reconfigure/restructure to better serve the mission and create greater efficiencies.
