Carr to Present “Citizen Kane” At Mulva Cultural Center “Screen & Scholar” Series
Dr. Bryan Carr (COMM/ITADS/WGSS) will host a special presentation of Orson Welles’ 1941 cinematic masterpiece Citizen Kane Thursday, May 8th at the Mulva Cultural Center in De Pere as part of the center’s “Screen & Scholar” series.
Kane, directed and written by the legendary auteur, is often considered one of the greatest films ever made and chronicles the rise and self-destruction of a media mogul. Released in a time when William Randolph Hearst enjoyed unprecedented power in the publishing industry, the film and Welles became a target of the billionaire himself, who waged a campaign against it in his publications. Citizen Kane and the story of its production may be more relevant than ever today as our social and mass media systems are concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer individuals. Carr will discuss the film’s importance to the art of filmmaking as well as its correlations to our contemporary media landscape in a presentation accompanying the screening.
Tickets are $10 for members and non-members and the show begins at 6:30 PM. You can reserve your tickets now through the Mulva Cultural Center website.
