Dr Gaurav Bansal of Cofrin School of Business Invited to speak to the Eastern Wisconsin Chapter of Financial Executive International

On the eve of International Women’s Day, i.e., on Mar 7, Dr. Bansal was invited to speak to the members and strategic partners of the Eastern Wisconsin Chapter of Financial Executive International (FEI) about his recent research on Female CIOs and the Battle for Influence in Tech. Dr. Bansal shared his research findings and stressed the practical implications of his research. He spoke about how gender stereotypes in the workplace impact the influence and key professional relationships of females holding CIO and other tech leadership positions. His message highlighted that female leaders need more recognition from their peers and team members. In his message, Dr. Bansal stressed that organizations must empower their female leaders by publicly acknowledging their expertise and celebrating their accomplishments. By facilitating the enhanced visibility, recognition, and influence of female IT leaders, organizations can effectively surmount obstacles and foster a workplace culture that is more inclusive and diverse. Female leaders getting diminished recognition for their expertise also provides another perspective to help explain a question raised in Forbes magazine by Chamorro-Premuzic (2021), “If Women Are Better Leaders, Then Why Are They Not In Charge?” The research was recently published (2024) in the Journal of Information Technology and People and was coauthored with Prof Zhuoli Axelton, also of the Cofrin School of Business. Financial Executives International connects financial leaders by exchanging ideas about best practices, defining the profession, educating members and stakeholders, and working with the government to improve the general economy.
