The chapter titled, “Who Is Providing Energy? Women and energy Regulations in Developing Countries: Transnational and Transferable Lessons,” explores women in energy regulation in the Global South, noting that women are vastly underrepresented in employment, leadership, and decision-making opportunities in many countries that comprise the region. From information presented by international agencies, including the United Nations, and public policy scholars, the chapter suggests that including women in energy policy making and regulation, education and mentoring, and by hearing their voices as energy consumers achieves both economic development and social justice. Examples are provided of efforts underway to gender mainstreaming in the energy sector with implications beyond the Global South.
