Assistant Professor Angela Baerwolf, DSW co-authored book for the Oxford Workshop Series with the School Social Work Association of America titled, Emerging Trends in School Social Work Practice: Responding to Rapid Change in Educational Ecosystems, with the chapter, “Evolving Perspectives on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” Dr. Baerwolf brings her experience as a practicing school social worker for seven years, board member and past president of Wisconsin School Social Workers Association, and most recent instructor of the course Overview of Wisconsin DPI School Social Work Standards at UWGB.
The book chapter focuses on the need for districts to navigate issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) amid politically charged environments. Additionally, it examines trends and emergent DEI practices and frameworks across multiple domains such as English language learners, LGBTQ communities, neurodiversity, and minoritized racial groups. Future implications and promising practices are also explored.
