Join us for “Beyond Stigma: Empowering Communities through Mental Wellness” Panel Discussion
We are excited to announce the upcoming panel discussion, “Beyond Stigma: Empowering Communities through Mental Wellness,” taking place on February 18th from 11:00 AM to 12:20 PM in the Christie Theater. This event is designed to help students understand and combat the stigma associated with accessing mental wellness services, with a particular focus on how stigma disproportionately affects individuals with certain identities.
Developed in collaboration with the First Gen Phoenix student organization, this panel discussion aims to address the unique challenges faced by first-generation college students regarding mental wellness. We believe that by creating a supportive and inclusive environment, we can empower all students to seek the mental wellness services they need.
Meet Our Esteemed Panelists:
- Josh Dutton: UWGB Alumnus, Veteran, MSW, APSW
- Jen Barnes: UWGB Alumna, MSW, Menominee Tribal Family Service Child Welfare Investigator
- Pachee Stern: UWGB Alumna, MSW, APSW
- Dr. Kadihjia Kelly: Vice President of the Board of Directors at WE ALL RISE, African American Resource Center
- Alondra Sánchez, LPC, MSE, NCC (she/ella): Licensed Professional Counselor
- John O’Reilly, UWGB Head Men’s Soccer coach will serve as the moderator
Each panelist brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective on mental wellness, making this an invaluable opportunity for students to learn and engage.
Join us for this important discussion and be part of the movement to break down barriers and empower our community through mental wellness. We look forward to seeing you there. Groups or classes interested in attending are welcome. Event will be live streamed.
Leading up to the panel discussion, a social norming poster and social media campaign will take place. This social norming campaign takes survey results from UW-Green Bay students who completed the American College Health Association National College Health Assessment in Spring 2024, and seeks to remind students that they are not alone in needing or seeking mental health support. If you would like materials from this social norming campaign, please email Katie Lesperance at lesperka@uwgb.edu.
Sponsored in part by HealthyChoices Task Force and First Gen Phoenix.
