Let’s Go Places!

LLI has some really fun trips planned for this summer, including theatre, music and sports.

Would you like an evening of dinner and theater but don’t want to drive? Join your friends in LLI (or make new friends on the trip) in June for a trip to the Fireside Dinner Theatre in Fort Atkinson and let the bus driver do the driving. The Fireside has earned its reputation as one of the premier entertainment destinations in the Midwest. It’s known for superb musical theater, fine dining and boutique shops in a one-of-a-kind setting. This will be a memory to cherish forever!

The Fireside is performing “The Church Basement Ladies in the Last Potluck Supper.” The story is set in 1979, the day of the church’s Centennial Celebration, and past parishioners have gathered to share hot dishes, bars and stories from the last 100 years. As the women work in the kitchen, a series of flashbacks bring forth shared memories. You will travel back to 1897 and meet Vivian’s grandmother; see Karin as a newlywed cautiously navigating the politics of the kitchen; and be there in 1944 when Mavis first barreled her way through the door. The Centennial Celebration is bittersweet. Times are tough in this small farming community, and hard decisions will have to be made.

In July, settle in for a trip to the Birch Creek Music Performance Center in beautiful Door County. The performance center campus, three miles east of Egg Harbor, is centered around the Dutton Concert Barn, a renovated century-old barn with exceptionally fine acoustics. All buildings are ADA compliant. The specific concert has not yet been announced.

In August or September, get out your Brewers gear for a trip to American Family Field to watch your favorite MLB team PLAY BALL!

The office is still working on dates and details for all of these excursions, so watch for an email! Whenever space permits, feel free to invite a nonmember to join us and enjoy summertime in Wisconsin.

The Travel Committee is always looking for input. If you have suggestions or feedback and/or would like to contribute an article about an LLI trip you participated in, please call the office at (920) 465-2356 or email lli@uwgb.edu.

Let’s make memories together, one trip at a time.
