Come Knit with Us

Have you ever thought about learning to knit? Or do you have years of knitting experience under your belt but want to learn new skills? Would you like to spend some time socializing with fellow knitters?

Whether you’re a novice, an experienced knitter or just want to meet other people who have a passion for knitting, the Lifelong Learning Institute has just the class for you! LLI includes several classes each semester which cater to your knitting interests and skills. Recent classes have included Beginning Knitting, a Primer in Lace, Knitting a Felted Bag and Knitting a Hat/Ski Mask. An Open Knitting class is also offered for knitters working on a special project. Apart from Beginning Knitting, most other classes require only that you know how to cast on, knit and purl. The rest you learn in class!

Instructor Mary Lu Sachs and her assistant, Linda Chapman, bring a wealth of knitting experience to the classes. They will help you read a pattern, learn a new stitch or fix a mistake (which every knitter knows will happen). As they say, “We know how to fix problems because we’ve been there ourselves.”

Since the classes usually meet for two hours at a time for four weeks, knitters have ample time to complete their projects. It’s rewarding to show off a completed work to your peers. Even if everyone is working on the same project, each finished product will be unique, based on the individual knitter’s style and choice of yarn. Sue said, “I learn something new in every class,” and Theresa says she looks forward to this class each semester. Anne says it’s not always easy but so rewarding: “I felt like Edward Scissorhands the first time I knitted with four double-pointed needles at the same time. But thanks to help from the instructors, I’m beginning to feel more confident.”

Class members are even invited to display their works in the Creative Gallery at the Spring Fling/Annual Meeting in April of each year!

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, watch for the fall course catalog. We’d be so happy to have you join us!
