Sarah taught middle school mathematics and English-Language Arts in the Neenah Joint School District and Howard-Suamico School District for a combined 20 years before becoming a full-time at-home parent to her two sons. Being home gave her the time to focus on her kids and their very busy after school schedules. However, after a couple of years she could tell something was missing from her time while the kids were at school. A friend and retired colleague shared with her what LLI was all about, suggesting it would be a great way to get involved and meet new people.
After some consideration, she joined LLI during the fall of 2021. Since then, she has enjoyed taking a wide variety of classes ranging from tours to seminars. Some of her favorites—and there have been many—include touring the Weidner Center, experiencing the cadaver lab on the UW-Green Bay campus while learning about organ and whole-body donation, learning about the Federal Reserve, hearing first-hand accounts from veterans about their service to our country, petting alpacas, sampling wines and strolling through a vineyard, learning how to use an AED, participating in a yoga class, experiencing the game of pickleball, learning more about tribal court and most recently taking a virtual tour of the secret annex in Amsterdam where Anne Frank hid during World War II. She was also fortunate to meet a wonderful small group of women during a hiking class, and they continue to get together every month or so to hike and chat.
Sarah says that there is so much to gain from joining LLI. From the obvious learning opportunities to the exploration of our communities to the creation of new connections with fellow members, there is simply something for everyone!
