Through Poetry, Writing & Sharing
As the instructor Shari Liesch, told us, chakras are energy fields. They start at the base of the spine and move through the crown of the head. Each level represents a color, specific organ, energy and physical status. All levels are interconnected. Chakra energy fields connect the layers within us and connect us to the world around us.
Writing is health-supportive in many ways. Words can express ideas, emotions, dreams, fears and feelings. Feelings are expressed in a safe place, in a supportive environment and can lower stress. Labeling and writing about emotions, (affect labeling) can help us manage them.
In a recent LLI writing-for-health event, participants explored each layer of the chakra by reviewing the represented color, meaning and body system. We used the RES template for poetry therapy: R = reflective; E = expressive; S = symbolic. As a group, we read a poetic verse related to the chakra level, (Reflective), spent time writing (Expressive), and then shared thoughts and meanings (Symbolic).
Using powerful tools (poetry, writing and expression), each chakra, from root to crown, was explored. The writings, discussion and connection were amazing. Below are the poem sections and responsive writings from some classmates.
