On Monday, August 23, 2021, Zhuoli Axelton started as an Assistant Professor in Accounting for the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business.

Zhuoli comes to us from Boise, ID. Zhuoli was previously employed at Washington State University. Zhuoli is involved as a volunteer for VITA programs.

In her free time, Zhuoli enjoys yoga, skiing, and hiking. Zhuoli is married with two children.

Zhuoli has a PhD in Accounting.

Welcome Carlos Gonzalez-Valle!

On Monday, August 23, 2021, Carlos Gonzalez-Valle started as an Assistant Professor-Mechanical Engineering in the Resch School of Engineering.

Carlos comes to us from Chilpancingo, Guerrero, Mexico. Carlos previously worked as a part time instructor for several courses at the University of Guanajuato and was in charge of the main activities in the IPHEL lab. Carlos is involved in different student chapters and associations such as ASME, Pi Tau Sigma, and Tau Beta Pi.

In his free time, Carlos enjoys reading, watching movies, solving puzzles, biking, playing tennis, computers and video games.

Carlos has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a MS in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Guanajuato.

Welcome Kristopher Purzycki!

On Monday, August 23, 2021, Kristopher Purzycki started as an Assistant Professor – Technical and Professional Writing in Humanities.

Kristopher comes to us from UW-Milwaukee where he was a graduate teaching assistant and lecturer. Kristopher has served as an election inspector since 2016 and looks forward to continuing this role in Green Vat. Kristopher is a volunteer with the Milwaukee County Parks Department, picking up trash alongside Lake Michigan.

In his free time, Kristopher enjoys several long distance outdoor actives such as, marathons, backpacking, and biking. When indoors Kristopher enjoys writing, working on media projects, painting, and sketching.

Kristopher has a wife of 20 years and two sons.

Kristopher has an A.A.A. in graphic design from Milwaukee Area Technical College, a BA in Professional Writing from Old Dominion University, a MA in Rhetoric and Composition from Old Dominion University, and a PhD in English from UW-Milwaukee.

Kristopher is thrilled to be coming to Green Bay and getting to know the campus community.

Welcome Justin Kavlie!

On Monday, August 23, 2021, Justin Kavlie started as an Assistant Professor in Communication and Information Science.

Justin comes to us from Jamestown, North Dakota where he volunteered and speech coach for Boys and Girls Club of Fargo, ND. He was also a jury member and volunteer for the Fargo Film Festival. Justin was the owner of Grassfire studios in Fargo, ND. Then, research and teaching fellow at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In his free time, Justin enjoys watching movies, playing video games, cooking, and watching college basketball.

Justin is a graduate of Concordia College with a bachelors degree in Psychology, a masters in Mass Communication from North Dakota State University, and a PhD candidate in Media and Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Welcome Macrae Husting!

On August 23, 2021, the Psychology Department welcomed Macrae Husting as a Lecturer.

Macrae is originally from Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. Macrae has previously worked at UW-Oshkosh, UW-Colleges, Lakeshore Technical College, and Sheboygan County Health and Human Services. Her research focuses on Deaf identity and development.

Macrae is a book club junky and loves live music and travel. She has a wonderful husband (additive manufacturing/prototype-making business owner and musician) and the two most amazing sons (about to turn 4 and 7).

Macrae has a Ph.D. in Education Psychology – Developmental and Cognitive Sciences and a M.S. in Educational Psychology – Learning and Development both from UW-Milwaukee. She also has a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish from UW-Oshkosh and an AAS from UW-Sheboygan.

Welcome Kaden Paulson-Smith!

On August 23, 2021, the Democracy and Justice Department welcomed Kaden Paulson-Smith as an assistant professor.

Kaden is originally from Lake Forest, Illinois. Kaden had previously worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They are involved with community organizing around LGBTQ+ and racial justice.

Kaden enjoys doing anything and everything outdoors, like camping, running, climbing, and swimming.

Kaden has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. from Smith College.

Kaden is looking forward to joining the UW-Green Bay community.

Welcome Cary B. Waubanascum!

On August 23, 2021, the Social Work Department welcomed Cary B. Waubanascum as an Assistant Professor in Social Work.

Cary is originally from Green Bay. Cary was previously employed with the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities as a research assistant in the School of Social Work. She has also worked with the National Criminal Justice Training Center at Fox Valley Technical College, the College of Menominee Nation and the Oneida Housing Authority. She has been involved in the Roseville Area School District in Roseville, Minnesota and is an American Indian Parent Committee member. Cary has also volunteered with “The First Gift” program in Minneapolis teaching groups how to make moccasins for babies in the NICU and volunteered with the Lower Phalen Creek Project sewing medicine bags for traditional medicines to give to front line workers.

Cary enjoys canoeing, reading, writing, cookouts, walking/hiking, swimming, hanging out with her family, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Cary and her husband Lance, son Rayan and daughter Shyla are excited to move back home to Green Bay.

Cary has a Ph.D. from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, M.S.W. from UW-Green Bay and a B.A. from Alverno College.

Welcome Mahmoud Hammouri!

On August 23, 2021, the Natural and Applied Sciences Department welcomed Mahmoud Hammouri as an Assistant Professor in Physics.

Mahmoud was born in Irbid, Jordan. He was previously employed with California State University in Los Angeles. Mahmoud’s research interests are in computational material science. He studies the electronic, magnetic, and transport properties of different structures for photovoltaic, rechargeable ion batteries, and organic/inorganic nanodevices.

Mahmoud is married and has 3 kids. He enjoys playing guitar, hiking and watching wildlife.

Mahmoud has a Ph.D. and M.S in Physics from New Mexico State University. He has another M.S. in Physics from Jordan University of Science and Technology and a B.S. in Physics from Yarmouk University.

Welcome Susan Hopkinson!

On August 23, 2021, the Nursing & Health Studies Department welcomed Susan Hopkinson as an Assistant Professor in Nursing.

Susan was previously employed with the United States Army for 27 years. She is a native of DePere, WI.

Suan has a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Maryland – Baltimore.
