I Just Want You To Know

Hello again, The Prince of Darkness here back again for another awesome blog. This one is for all the incoming freshmen. I am in my second semester of college, and I feel I have a lot of insight to share to help you when you show up. I will start off by saying college is only as hard as you make it. The more classes you sign up for, the harder it will be to stay on top of your work. I don’t think I have had very many hard assignments. They only become hard when they start to add up. It is also hard to attend a bunch of classes in a week. Oftentimes, if you sign up for too many classes you will want to skip a few every once in a while. There will be bumps in the road. At some point, you will experience both physical and emotional hardships. I have been sick for a week straight that kept me out of classes. I had to put my dog down during my second month here. My grades suffered because of it. I want you to know there is help for you.

This college is so good at offering you help. You only need to send an email or walk into a room at your community center or Dean of Student’s office and people will ask what they can do for you. Professors also hold office hours weekly and they are usually at convenient times. You will always have at least one person you can count on to help you, whether it’s a fellow student or a professor. In addition to having many helpful people, this college is also filled with great opportunities to make friends and have a good time. Bingo is my favorite event to go to, I have met a lot of good friends that way. I have built up a support system for myself. I always have help if I need it. Don’t be scared of college; there’s always good around you.

College Can Be Hell

Hello once again, The Prince of darkness here to talk to you about college stressors. I’m sure you have heard about how great of a place college can be. Parties, new friends, and getting away from home were probably the main points. I am here to tell you to take all the good things with a grain of salt. College can be stressful if you don’t have your head correctly on your shoulders. From my own personal experience, I have fallen severely behind in my classes in years past because I stay up too late, then I end up sleeping in the next day and skipping my classes. Because I didn’t go to my classes, when I would attempt the homework I would immediately fail, get frustrated that I wasn’t finding easy success, and then just give up altogether in the class.

Time management is just one of the many college stressors. Money is also a big factor. If you’re like me, you don’t want to ask some company for help paying for college and then be indebted to them for the rest of your life. Just not my cup of tea. That leaves me to do my best to scrape together enough money every semester to stay in school. The military offers a very easy way to get lots of free help with college finances, at the potential cost of your life. This obviously causes more stress as well because now you’re contractually committed to serving and defending your country as well as trying to be a good student. College can and will catch up to you if you fall behind. Don’t let it!Help for a complicated life -David Raff

Fight The Conformists

Fight the Conformists

Hey guys, The Prince of Darkness here. Let’s talk about college. Being in college is cool because you get to be your own boss. No more doing what your parents tell you. The teachers have no control over you either. You don’t have to sit there and conform to the ways of the teachers like in high school. I get to decide when I wake up, when I eat, when I sleep. If I feel like doing homework, I do homework.  If I decide I want to take the day off, I can take the day off and do whatever I please. It’s all about me and what I want. I love being in college compared to being in high school.

Don’t think it’s all sunshine and rainbows in college though. You should be warned that being your own boss sucks sometimes. You are required to pay money for this education, and its no small amount either, especially for a student fresh out of high school. You need to still go to classes and get good grades because just like high school, you can get into trouble and find yourself kicked out of the institution if you don’t get good grades. I wish we didn’t have to conform so much. When is it going to be my own life, where I get to make every decision I want, and I don’t have anyone that can be mad at me or tell me I’m doing something wrong? Being your own boss comes with a lot of responsibilities and the only person who can be held responsible is yourself.
