A Status Report

As the weeks inch closer and closer to the midterms the later weeks of college have brought in a new level of challenges and intensity. In some classes midterms and even a final was announced for my math class. The weeks prior were a breeze compared but now homework piles up and with that comes stressors. One main stressor I have is with my computer science class. A new language is tough, but learning a new language plus a completely new way to

format is next level with difficulty. Everyone seems to understand what’s going on while I sit stumped all the time, but luckily for me it seems that a lot of the class  material is also online so that it becomes easier to study and look for assistance which has helped the struggle ease up a little.

Another stressor I am facing is my time management skills. With college comes lots of friends and activities to do, but also needing time to do homework and study. I definitely have to improve on putting more time into the studying aspect. There are many different things going on during college to where I can’t keep up with doing them all. I hope this is only a struggle I will have to deal with for only this semester and find out a way to manage my time more effectively so that I may be able to manage these stressors at a safe level.

A New Inspiration in College

When I thought about college during high school, I thought it was going to be a non-stop onslaught of work and assignments with a hint of constant studying. But these first few weeks of college have certainly proven me wrong. What I thought was going to be sleepless nights doing homework turned into going to UWGB bingo and making new friends. I did have homework, of course, but not to the degree I thought it was going to be. I spend around 2-4 hours every other day doing homework, and some classes may be difficult, like my computer science class, but once I pace myself correctly, it totally works. This really gave me a good time to hang out with my friends, and I was able to discover more about the campus itself as well.

Another expectation I was incorrect about was the impression and character of my professors in all of my classes. In high school, my high school teachers would always say things like “your professors won’t be as forgiving” and “professors won’t make time for you,” but my professor proved that wrong. My professors are so much more down to earth than any high school teacher I’ve ever had, an example being my professor of Fundamentals of Public Address. She talks about the most casual things while still teaching the class, and when I have a question, she makes sure to help me understand, and we would sometimes talk after class to talk to me about the subject for today. This blew my expectations out the door and really gave me hope and inspiration to work harder throughout this first semester of college.
