Electronic Education

There are many reasons people take online classes. This year, I took an online class that I thought I was going to enjoy and be a quick and easy class. I later found out this class was going to be the hardest class I’ve taken in years. As time went on, the teacher kept getting slower and slower at posting the new week’s assignments. By the end of the class the final assignment was posted, but something was wrong. I couldn’t find the assignments, but maybe they will show up with time. The final assignment due date arrived, and I found an announcement post from my teacher saying there were technical issues and was unable to post the assignments. That’s when a new assignment was created that consisted of a discussion post and was due a week after the class ended. This frustrated me as I was starting a new class with new homework, and I now had to fit in this homework for a class that should be over already.

Although the class was not what I hoped, there were many things that I enjoyed and learned throughout the class. One thing that really helped me get through this class was time management. Some people use planners, but I use an app on my phone to organize my assignments down in due date order, so I know what I need to do first. What is super nice about the online class is that the assignment is given out toward the start of the week generally, and it’s due at the end of the week. This gives you plenty of time to complete the assignments given, while also being able to have a flexible schedule throughout the week. Although the class didn’t go as planned, it helped me understand how online classes work. With this new knowledge, I will be able to become more productive if I take another one and be able to spend more time outside of the classroom.

The Friends Hotel

A dorm is a building college students live in to be on campus during their education. To me, it feels more like a hotel with friends. UWGB like any other school has ID cards that are issued to you. These cards are used for your meal swipes, signing in, and to getting into your specified dorm building and room. I feel as though this is what makes me think of the building more as a hotel than a dorm. Like a hotel, there is a lounge area and it has enough space they put a pool table in it. Sadly the dorms on campus don’t feed us in the lounge area. I like that UWGB added pool tables in a couple of the dorms for the people to enjoy the lounge area, and meet new people or to just play with friends. This is a really cool icebreaker as you could enjoy a game of pool with your new friends.

Living on campus is not all sunshine and rainbows, as there can be roommate problems, or it could be as simple as living on your own. The big deal breaker is definitely roommates. Sometimes there are roommates that aren’t very fond of each other causing it to ruin part of the college experience. This can happen because the roommates are messy, or even stay in the room and don’t leave. This can be annoying as sometimes you might want to have a quiet place to hang out, but your roommate is always there. Living on campus doesn’t have to be bad, there are many good things that come with living on campus. By living on campus you get to meet new people in your dorm, and you get to live on your own. There are many people who get babied through life by their parents, but once they live on campus, they are expected to be able to be self-sustaining. Sadly not everyone is ready for that responsibility. Then there are others who really want to be on their own and are excited to be able to have their own place along with being able to make the events that happen on campus.

Fact vs Fiction: The College Edition

The leap from my small high school to UWGB was a big one and I was very nervous but I am so glad I was able to take that step. Before college, I was super afraid that roomming with a stranger was going to be super bad. This was nothing farther from the truth. I am really enjoying being able to come and go whenever I please without someone asking where I’m going. I was also super afraid that I wasn’t going to make any friends. In the first week of school, we had the GB welcome for the freshman and I was able to make some friends that I’ve hung out with everyday since. Thankfully during that first week they gave us a tour of campus and showed us everything we needed to know and even how to get to our classes. This was super helpful as I come from a super small school and this is a big step up in comparison to the small walk from class to class.

In high school I didn’t really struggle that much with classes, but coming into college I was expecting these super hard classes that I was going to have to do hours of studying just to understand and keep up with what’s being taught. Surprisingly, I am actually understanding most of what is said and I’m able to actually enjoy the topics being taught. Classes can be fun but what makes the class is the professor. I was expecting professors not be super nice or just be super strict, but instead, they are all super fun and I don’t have any complaints. They all make the class super enjoyable and are there to help and answer questions whenever I need them.
