How to enjoy college

There are many things offered at UWGB to help you to enjoy College. Getting involved in the activities that are offered on campus is a great way to meet new people. Whether you are looking for something related to your major or a hobby, there are many clubs offered at UWGB. If you have an interest and there are no clubs yet, you can start one. I have joined Kappa Sigma and a car club. Kappa Sigma is a fraternity that does a lot of volunteer work.  Already I have gone to Denmark High School for a woodworking event and a Halloween event. The fraternity also helps out at Packer games. Car club is where members show off their cars and talk about the brand of the car and engines. When we see a car that looks nice, we post it in the group and talk about it. I have found that I have made connections with people that I would not have made if I didn’t join these clubs. I have taken advantage of the fitness center on campus, the Kress Center. Another great opportunity on Campus is Phoenix Club, which is a good place to hang with friends and relieve some stress. I enjoy going to Phoenix Club to watch the Packer games. If you are a video gamer like I am, the Esports Lounge is a nice place to go. You can play a game by yourself or with your friends.

Not only does meeting people help with your enjoyment of college, but there are many things you can do yourself to help you succeed. An important thing to do is keep a planner. There are so many dates to remember, and a lot of assignments that need to be completed on different days. Staying organized is extremely important, and it is something that I continue to struggle with. You would also want to have a designated work area, which if you live in a dorm can be tricky. I got lucky, my roommates are respectful when it comes to studying and will avoid distracting me when they see I’m studying. Lastly, getting adequate sleep is extremely important.  If I don’t get at least 5-6 hours of sleep, I can’t function properly.  I would struggle with remembering what was said in class and what needs to be done, and then my homework would suffer.

New Home

Living in a dorm is a great way to get the full college experience, and there are many positives. Living in the dorm is nice, because you don’t have to waste gas driving to school. Your car does not leave unless you want to go somewhere or have a job. Also, you can just get up ten minutes before class and walk there and be on time. Besides getting to sleep longer, you can always take advantage of all of the stuff offered to students. Other than use the stuff that is given to you. You get to meet new people in dorms by talking in the lounge or in the living room depending what dorm you are in. Other than getting to meet new people, the events are easy to go to if you live on campus because if it is late you don’t have to drive if you live on campus. Therefore, It is nice to have a dorm if you have 2 hours off from class and can just go chill in your dorm tell class.

Although I enjoy living in the dorm, dorm life is not all good. You could get a roommate that is a pain to deal with or is disrespectful and doesn’t turn his tv off or ps4. This can make it hard to study or get enough sleep.  The roommate can be super loud while playing games late at night or during the day. Other than the roommate, if you would leave for an hour off campus, it is hard to find a parking spot that is close to your class or dorm because the parking lots are not finished or too small to have all the student’s cars there. On the other hand, the construction work they have going on, on campus it is hard to sleep in or just try to relax or work on homework. Finally, there is no AC so that cannot be fun when it is hot outside.

All Is Good

When I came to Green Bay I was not ready for how much free time I would have. I thought the only time I would have to get homework done. is the weekend after work. I thought I would have a bunch of homework to do on that day. However I have only three hours of classes a day so I have so much time to get stuff done. I thought I was going to have class all day and not have free time to do homework or study. I get to come back to the dorm and am able to do homework and get the readings I have to get done for that week.

Another thing I was not expecting was. I thought the professors would be more strict and not willing to help. This made me not want to ask for help or ask questions because ninety percent of the professors here want students to pass. If students go ask for help, most of the professors will pick a time to meet to help. There is understanding if students feel like garbage they can say they are missing class they just have to let the professor know. In addition, I have a teacher that if you need help on the homework she will push the due date so she can help and make I understand it before sending me to do it by myself.
