Becomes Too Much

College students face many academic stressors. One of my academic stressor is time management. I’m one to procrastinate on an assignment but also stress about it not being done. I tend to wait until the day that an assignment is due to submit it. If I see that I have a few extra days to complete an assignment compared to another, I’ll do the one due sooner and push off the one that is due later, typically until the day it’s due. Another academic stressor is one particular class, my biology class. I have a hard time understanding the very little details that go into what we are talking about. Biology is very complex and has many systems and parts that interact with each other creating something new, and trying to understand everything becomes a lot. The class is also all lectures, quizzes, and exams, and personally I don’t do well with tests; I’m a lot better with writing and projects. So that’s another factor that makes this class more difficult and an academic stressor for me.

Another academic stressor is the other aspects of my life. I alway try to make time to be there for my friends and family because they are always there for me. It’s important to me that I’m there for them too, if not more, because I love to help out the people I care about any way I can. With this point, if someone important to me needs me I will drop everything I’m doing in that moment to go help. Which can interfere with my academics if that’s what I was currently working on or just taking the time to be with a loved one is time taken away from my study time. I am also on two teams, a competition dance team and game day team which takes up a lot of my time for practices, games, and competitions. With this I have 4-6 practices a week and typically 1-2 games a week, as well as possibly a competition that week too. I really enjoy being on both teams though it does take a ton of time away, which becomes a big stressor to be committed to the teams while also keeping up with homework and studying. To be Successful

I want to be a better student than I was last semester. Not to say that I didn’t try with school the previous semester but there are certain things that I should have put as a high priority and focused more on studying. Though I did have a lot going on with sports. I was on two teams during the whole semester: game day team and competition team which meant 4-6 practices a week taking up a bunch of my study time. Nonetheless I should have made more of an effort in my school work, and that’s what I hope to do this semester. One of my goals for this semester is to really prioritize my school work and get all A’s and B’s. I do think this is achievable for me because one, I now have more time on my hands with dance starting to come to a close, and two, because I have one class less to worry about like I did last semester.

Another goal I would like to set for myself this semester is to start to make a plan for future years to come. I want to start planning for what classes I need and want to take next fall and spring semesters to make sure I’m on track to graduate on time. I want to be a physical therapist so I’m going to have to go to PT school after I get my bachelors degree. With this I want to start shadowing soon and getting some experience in the field to increase my chances of getting into a good PT school. To add on to this I also want to start looking into PT school, to see what they offer, what I need to do to get in, and for how much. Adding on to this goal I think it would be a good idea for me to start planning out my day and weeks so I know that I’m on top of everything that I need to do. Right now I get everything that I need to by remembering it in my head or writing it down in my phone. With these new goals I’m gonna be more busy and need to keep up with everything. By planning out my days I’ll be sure to keep up and stay on track with everything I need to do.
