Hidden in my brain

So far, I have been successful, and I’m almost done with my first semester of college. Throughout this semester I have learned lots of things about college, and I have some hidden secrets to share. First and foremost, my biggest secret that I have to do well in college is to pick a major that you actually have an interest in. Don’t pick something just because you’re going to make a lot of money, or because people tell you this job is the best job, or your family wants you to do this major, or whatever. Pick a major you actually are interested in because if you are interested in that major you are going to like the classes more and you are bound to do better when you are actually interested in the major. On the other hand, Another secret I have about college is that college is not for everyone. If you only came to college because your family wanted you to or you just felt pressured to go to college because that is what everyone says you should do it’s okay to not want to go to college so if you find yourself trying your classes and hating how college is it’s okay to not go to college. It isn’t for everyone so don’t force yourself to if that is not what you want to do with your life.

Another secret to doing well in college for me is I like to be very organized. I go to college. I’m taking 17 credits right now. I also work so what has majorly helped me is my planner. In my planner I write my assignments for the day when my exams are, what classes I have that day and what time I work that day. This has helped me in doing well in college. Another thing that has helped me in college is going to classes as much as possible. By going to classes, you are going to do a lot better in the class and you will always know what is happening in the class. Another thing that has helped me in college is living in the dorms. Living in the dorms you are by everything you need, and you’re more likely to get out of bed and go to class every day when you live in the dorms. Finally, another thing that has helped me in college is having good studying skills such as turning off my phone while I study.  Overall, my biggest advice for college is to ask yourself if college is really what you want to do and if it is, go and do it and have fun and if it’s not that is also okay college isn’t for everyone.

Dorms Are Sometimes Like Dungeons

I am a freshman this year and have just started living on campus. This is the first time I have ever lived somewhere without my family. After living here for about 2 months I have noticed that there are both a lot of ups and downs to living in the dorms.  One major con of living in the dorms is the fire alarms. Two days ago our fire alarm went off at 11:40pm while I was asleep.  My roommate and I  went outside and we found out someone burned their ramen. This was really annoying to us because we were asleep. I couldn’t fall asleep for another hour after the alarm went off. and it wasn’t the only time a fire alarm had gone off. It happens quite often. Another major con of living in the dorms is I like my sleep. A lot of my friends want to stay up super late all the time and sometimes it’s exhausting. And of course, my dorm doesn’t have my pet cat Dottie there with me.

Although the dorms have a lot of cons there are still lots of pros as well. One pro is that  I already knew my roommate  before moving in, we have been best friends for four years. Another pro about the dorms is sometimes it’s fun to stay up  and hangout late at night. Also another major pro about living in the dorms is that I am by everything on campus which makes it easier to go to class and to use things such as the library, the Kress etc. It’s also just a pretty campus in general with lots of trees and pretty buildings and scenery. Finally the dorms allowed me to live on my own without my family for once which is a completely new experience. But in a good way

Reality is Not Always Rotten

Coming into college as a freshman, I had some expectations for college. One thing I expected was homework. I cut down my hours at my job from 30 hours a week to 12 hours a week. I expected that college would have a lot more homework than it actually does. I also expected Professors to be stricter than they actually are. Most professors don’t care what students do since they are spending money to be here. It is up to them how they do in a class. One thing I didn’t expect was to have a lot of free time. I expected that I was going to always be doing homework and always at my job.

While I had expectations for college, The reality is much better. In reality, college is not as bad as I thought it would be.  I don’t have too much homework, meaning I don’t stay up until like 2 in the morning doing homework like I thought I would. In reality, I also have a lot of free time to fill with things I want to do outside of college like spending time with my friends and family, going to work, joining school clubs etc. Also In reality the professors are really kind for the most part and understanding. Overall my reality doesn’t really match my expectations. College is kind of the opposite of what I expected it to be like. But that is a good thing since my expectations were not good.
